Sorry, Spud, just got a little carried away about the socialisation business.

Alright, whenever you say "hi," I say "go-go!"
if you aren't saying hello, gtfo.

the topic of this thread is for new members to say hello. /mod
Hello. Feeling grateful to a lot of you guys. Got furious at restrictions in the DRM systems I'd bought into, have boxes and boxes of books, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, etc. that after three moves and an equal number of floods is just a disaster, sick of buying the same content over and over - in one case I counted 4x plus available via an online subscription. Not to mention those brave souls with hacked PS3s for SACD content that's simply unavailable elsewhere, or great vinyl rips that have amazed me.

Time to give back. VPN, check. Tutanota, check. Pretty good privacy basics...I hope so.

Interested in people with a thing for good music of pretty much any type, and frankly, anything but porn - I'm rather happily married, which fills those needs rather well, thank you.

Interested in the ins and outs of heavily posting here and Usenet. Interested in finding a mentor or two. Would also love a dognzb account invite, or anything else helpful. Have a lot of data available for upload that I don't see available - audio books & CDs primarily, though I'm thinking of getting a dvd Netflix account to fill some pretty gaping holes. About the only thing I won't have available is a server for now - would likely need assistance seeding.

Please do contact me. Middle aged family guy who believes I ought to be able to loan my damn stuff to people. Not everybody has access to a major metropolitan library either. I believe fans create revenue for creative professionals and that the enforcers are the main people who benefit from copyright enforcement - and that sharing various media creates a richer environment for everyone. And that region restrictions are simply wrong for publicly supported content.

Have a personal axe to grind about the lack of opera librettos online - you can HEAR the damn Ring of the Nibelung, but God save you if you want to understand it. I do not get the attitude about such things with digital music providers. There's a gap there that can only be filled here and Usenet - and they're proving far harder to find good content on than that provided by some truly dedicated people here.

Anyway - contact me! And it's a pirate's life for me, though our household subscribes to Netflix, cable TV, a streaming music service, an audio book service, and have purchased God knows how much physical content. This stuff is my labor going to support creative professionals that I'm a fan of - but Stephen King isn't going to lose anything by my replacing water-damaged hardbound books with kindly-supplied electronic ones.

And how I loathe the recording industry - they're trying to destroy audiophile music along with the connection people had with their music through pix and program notes.

Anyway, that's me. Hope to hear from someone like-minded with more experience. There's some good people here, aesthetically interesting people who care about others. There's also, ofc, creeps and money. We're human. And this free stuff ain't free. And if you're reading this and work for The Man - rethink your job. Artists should make money for their work, but without fans, that won't happen. And some people can't afford the content at all except for this - so where does THAT hurt anyone either?

Quite an intro. A bit sorry for the wall of text, but how am I going to make a legitimate introduction and still retain some needed privacy? Hope to hear from you.
