I'm new to this forum but not new to the game. I'm a decades-long enthusiastic physical media collector but, sometimes, I bristle at the economics of greed by way of intentional artificial scarcity. And so I seek comfort and encouragement among my fellow bit-flinging enablers. Damn, I didn't realize how much I miss these crusty Web 0.7b-style forums <3

There's still nothing wrong with collecting physical media.

I am deligted to see so many supporters of offsite data backups for seemingly always available data, which - after some years - turn out to be hard to get on phsical media or download / stream.
Not everything makes it to archvie.org
