Going to Heaven or Hell

In Christian concept, when you die, do you go to Heaven/Hell immediately after the fact, or at the day of Judgement?

According to Christian faith, you go there right away. Not that you will. Tongue

US Senator Benjamin Wade upon being asked his opinion of heaven and hell: "Well, I think, from all I can learn, that heaven has the better climate, but hell has the better company."

Wade is wrong about one thing. ‌ In Hell you are utterly alone until resurrected for the day of Judgement,
when you're either welcomed for any excuse they can find or thrown out to finally die in the lake of fire.

So, in hell you [effectively immortal] spend centuries alone wondering if there's any hope, hence the torment.

So Hell would be "subsidised housing" for sinners.

More like exile and homelessness.

Housing implies shelter and comfort.
Hell is not a jail cell or a confinement.
It is like a desert with no borders or life.

So you're ignoring the fact that Wade meant his view humorously? Fair enough (though I think I'd have liked to meet Wade, as opposed to many a dour hell-preaching theologian). Doesn't mean a person has to accept anyone else's stated definition of hell, including the one you mention. There are many, completely differing, strongly opposed views among various Christians sects about what hell is--and many unsanctioned more among Christians, themselves.

If any of this, or if any of the Bible is true, jokes like Wade's are best faced directly.
There are scholarly definitions and personal opinions galore but the original source
for the concept is worth examining more closely if it is to be accepted as genuine.
If we're to explore biblical topics then we use that one source instead of opinions.

The Bible places Hell and the lake of fire separately in time. ‌ It also states plainly
that the second death in the lake of fire is final and that the wait in hell is until the
day that all are brought to be judged; thus those in hell are practically immortal
until they either die at last or are accepted as friends, escaping the ultimate fate.

If the Bible is right and the rest of us aren't then our joking won't help us on that day.

We're not discussing anybody's particular conception of any so-called divine book. We're answering a question about a concept found among a very few monotheistic religions with a lot of their sects, which in turn have many contrasting beliefs about what's in their version of that book, on the subject of hell. If you're going to insist on one view, seriously or otherwise, others will simply point to their own beliefs on what this or that divine book says. And if you want to read up on the variety of those views accepted by different Christian sects, try reading here. (RobertX, there's a source for you. Pretty basic, as there's still much greater variety, but accurate.)

I may be wrong about this, and you may just be playing along to have your version of fun, but it doesn't appear you get Wade's joke. Suffice to say, it was aimed squarely at his culture--and ours, since in some respects, little has changed since then. His situating heaven and hell firmly in relation to society I find pretty damn clever, and still relevant. Big Grin

You said Christian concept. I'm learning, but am not well versed. As you know, I'm non-denominational. I believe Christianity is a small view, or 1 peice of the pie. Muslim is another, budism is yet another.

I believe there is no hell once you are gone. Hell is here and now for those who need it. Think of it, how do you know the good parts if you no not of the bad....

Say, pretend the sun never went down, There would be no such thing as night, right?? there would also be no such thing as DAY, since we no longer needed a term to describe the difference, since there is no difference. The sun being up all the time would be just "what is"

Does that make sense?

To further answer your question the best way I know how... There is no waiting. Once you go to heaven, or back into the universe, it's immediate.

I believe god making the world is correct in the spiritual essence, which is exactly the same as the big bang theory on the physical sense. We were all a part of the 1 god, then became many, to distinguish ourselves from one another, and give ourselves an identity, just like the planets, stars, galaxies, and universes...
