are you a pirate just to save a few bucks ?? or is it your ideology

Somehow pirates turn out better content than what the monopolistic companies can offer, they also have better functioning enviroments.

I think that piracy for uploaders and seeders is something like social activism (you can call it ideology)

For downloaders that just click to download without helping in seeding it's something colorless. They do it only for an instant entertainment.

For downloaders that help in seeding as well is something like social activism again.

There is no wrong answer but then the question is wrong? Most copyright infringents do it for many reasons, frequently more than one at a time.
So, "all of the above, and more" would be my pick.

I was just a kid when the Apple II started selling. It was HUGE like alien technology, a Trekkie's wet dream!
But it was expensive and hard to get, my country issued an embargo on computer imports, even software was rare.

An awesome new technology + high hormones + prohibition + king ramson costs = Yo ho ho!

Not to mention the moral and legal ambiguity, since the local clone makers were infringents themselves and authorities were making it worse.
All was wrong and it was all right.

Obviously, I copied my first floppy disk because I needed an OS backup; then I made another just in case, but that made me a like a "cabin boy".

Then I asked a friend for a game, because I couldn't make a 3000-mile trip just to buy it and mail order wasn't an option. That made me a "pirate".

I went to school one day with a box full of 5.25" floppies and oh boy, realised I was a "bucaneer" with parrot and all!

BUT never did professional piracy - Crack, copy or distribution for $$$ or other means of profit. Does that make me a "poacher" instead of "pirate" ?

Rest of story is history, as they say...

Convenience.
Its way more convenient to DL something and watch it where and when and how I want then tied to streaming.

Diversity.
I'm almost invariably never attracted to what hollywood and the liberal media are pushing at any time these days.
I'm mostly fishing around for rarer stuff that isn't part of their propaganda or agenda.

Saving MORE then a few bucks.
It often costs a premium price to get access to rare stuff that the media isn't making available becasue it doesn't suit their agenda.
Sometimes I'm amused at how much money I spent over the years in my life on my record collection of rarities that are all pretty much available in flac on the internet these days.
But I'm not mad about that, I'm glad that they are and people don't have to spend every last cent like I did.

And as far as games and stuff, the pirated versions aren't loaded down with all sort of invasive antipiracy isht guming up your performance.

But its still important to support the artists and creators WHO DESERVE IT.

I wouldn't pay a dime for anything made by disney, they dont deserve it.
But GOG or Rifftrax or indy films that are actually good deserve the support from my hard earned cash thats left after liberal slumlords, extortionists and parasites drink the blood of our children through fee's, fines and taxes to "fix" the problems they create wherever they go for a living.

I didn't vote other but still wanted to put out my reason. As a teen as most pirates are, although I have money I don't merely have enough to buy the games or addons I want for my flight sim, since it mostly cots up to nearly $200 each time, I also have to pay rent and get basic needs. Until I'm content that I can stably support myself, this is what I go for.

I do it to get a preview of something before I buy the item. With music sometimes its hard to get the limited print and this is the next best thing until I can afford the rare item.

And that should really be another option. Wink

thats kind of what i meant with option nr3. but you are right it should be all information: science, medicine etc.. i was thinking of old times when sciences and arts used to be under the same roof.  Big Grin

Agree with all the above. Just the part about "financed by Taxes" I disagree with. You pay for internet service, then you pay for the data coming down or going up. So you basically paid for the content.

Screwing the liberal media, is a pleasure. I upload the Wall Street Journal because I am spreading around right wing teachings. The Gideon's use to put Bibles in Motel/Hotel rooms. Probably still do. That way they spread the Gospel to people traveling around the US/world. I don't know if other countries allow the Bible to be put in Hotel rooms ( Middle East probably no ), but if you want to spread what you believe in, make it available to everyone.

Go and get my daily upload of the Wall Street Journal. I can probably upload for the next 30 years. Maybe 50 years. When my days are numbered, I will let you folks know.

Cheers! Smile

"The Gideon's use to put Bibles in Motel/Hotel rooms."

Great source of rice papers if you ever run out of Zig-Zags. And they're free. Win-win! Big Grin
