Going to Heaven or Hell

I wonder what it feels like to be thrown into a lake of fire; perhaps I can bring a bathing suit and dive into it. Smile

Can't be worse than Washington DC traffic on a Friday after 3 PM. In fact, probably a lot better.

the day of judgement is the day you die, where in front of all your dead relatives your whole life is put on a big screen where upon you must answer for everything "wrong" you did.

I agree. ‌ ‌ A lake of something already hot, like lava, would hurt a lot, but not for long if you could call that mercy.

A lake of flammable liquid would be easier because all the burning is above the surface and the lake itself would be cool.
To survive that you would have to plan your exit, do it quickly and then put out the clothing fire as quickly as you can.
Stuntmen could do it, with their fireproofing gels and fire suits, but I'll bet you get no volunteers doing it for free.

The bible's Lake of Fire appears to be a black hole caused by the universe's destruction/replacement in Rev 20:10-21:1.
If so there will likely be plenty of heat and pain falling in but it's probably tidal forces that will be the fatal part; as one would
be torn down to subatomic particles and then even those would be destroyed in the singularity at the black hole's center.
Given that time itself is distorted strongly by the forces involved the end would be extremely quick under the event horizon.
Satan and his demons, though, as nonphysical spirits, won't be so [relatively] lucky. They'll fight all the way to their very end.

True; aside from the dead relatives, the big screen and getting a chance to answer judgements already made. ‌‌ ‌‌[Image: tongue3.gif]
All indications are it will be a quick process for most of the hundred billion brought forth and judged in one day;
so they won't have luxuries like 21st century tech or a chance to put on a show for a sympathetic audience.

Well, of course I would. Any deity who puts people through unending torment is in my opinion completely psychotic. Given just how stupid and limited we are as a species, mercy would seem to be one of the first qualities demanded of a deity or deities, along with a sense of humor and a universe-sized dollop of love.

So if there's a hell, the god or gods that have created it are psychotic power-tripping bastard(s). As I can't envision a deity doing this, I'm just going to set aside the hell stuff as an attempt to keep people in line, and to make them feel smugly good about others getting thrown into hell who aren't part of their religion. Which I personally find sick.

The imaginary hell of eternal torment was actually a Roman idea in the dark ages,
which explains a lot, given their profoundly cruel history and dogmas of the time.

The biblical versions of hell and lake of fire seem to be quite saintly in comparison.  ‌ ‌ Cool

Still completely nasty and insane. Like I wrote, the product of some people who wanted to keep their folks in line and promise horrors to unbelievers to make them feel better.

Monotheistic religions are ever so polarized. Not that they could be anything else, by definition, but that's half the problem right there, in my opinion.

The biblical version of hell is pretty much a time out in solitude, most of which is spent sleeping.
The lake of fire is presented as a quick death for humans and a slow death for the devil and crew.
Cruelty to us is not in either situation and both are completely sane compared to fictional versions.

The human viewpoints you dislike are a product of churches who are effectively Truth's enemies.
Human-led monotheistic religions are all a grab for money and power but those are all fakes to
distract people from the real deal, which is itself pretty much opposite in all ways from those guys.

I have a feeling that this thread will be judged and thrown into the lake of the Void.

Guys, I came for an answer, maybe for a discussion too, but I would gladly part ways with this thread and go do some hellish pirating.

Fair enough. I figured that since it was still open after so many comments having nothing to do with your question, it was pretty much anything goes.

But really, it should be closed.
