I just finished watching one of those "Go back in time and see how people used to eat" reality TV shows.
At one point the narrator makes the ridiculous statement that women the 1940s spent 85 hours a week doing household chores. Well that comes out to more than 12 hours a day! I have to ask just how big was their home and just how many children did they have?
I've talked to some of the older generation that lived through the war and one woman told me she had 4 kids plus her husband. On a bad day she only did about 4 to 6 hours of housework. I really think part of the appeal to these shows is how the people involved bitch and moan about how hard they're working and how much they miss the modern age.
