Traveling back in time for dinner.

I just finished watching one of those "Go back in time and see how people used to eat" reality TV shows.

At one point the narrator makes the ridiculous  statement that women the 1940s spent 85 hours a week doing household chores.    Well that comes out to more than 12 hours a day!    I have to ask just how big was their home and just how many children did they have?

I've talked to some of the older generation that lived through the war and one woman told me she had 4 kids plus her husband.   On a bad day she only did about 4 to 6 hours of housework.  I really think part of the appeal to these shows is how the people involved bitch and moan about how hard they're working and how much they miss the modern age.

No they said it was in addition to any other duties a woman undertook for the war effort.

The woman in the show spent most of her time bitching and complaining too.

At one point she actually said that her grandmother used to have cookies and tea ready for her husband when he came home from work.. But in her opinion she considered that doing that for a man was demeaning to women.

Hmmm now that I think about it there were a lot of feminist overtones in the series.

It's hard to find any informational programs nowadays without some sort of agenda.

I'm sure life was harder back then. Electric washing machines didn't become popular until the 50's. I could be mistaken, but even refrigerators weren't as advanced (maybe they were more icebox types that required maintenance?).

I bet chores were more strict in their ritual since the role was woman stayed home, and men worked.  Plus, I wonder if "mother's little helpers" were used and caused production to slow down (just my thoughts).

Looks like housewives back then were more prone to depression:

(the title is 50's but it references 40-60's). HTF can you blame them? I'd be pissed to cleaning all day, taking care of ungrateful brats. I'm sure some cleaning was redundant... Every day cleaning the same thing. How can you clean the toilet for the 30th time with any enthusiasm or pep?

Feminist motivated or not. That must have been a shit deal for those who wanted more out of life...

I know...
It's rather annoying and I do my best to just ignore it but sometimes it's just so obvious that there's an agenda at play that I have to stop watching the show.

Today alcoholism is seriously on the rise among women.

The problem is whenever the majority of people have good paying jobs they start to bitch and complain about wanting more out of life. In all honesty they seldom know what it is they're looking for so instead they go out of their way to be discontent assholes about everything.
