I'm seeding a torrent and I need to know two things.
1. What should my share ratio be before I stop sharing? I'm at 6.089 as it stands. I don't mind seeding a little longer I just need to know when to stop.
2. My torrent keeps showing up in the bay as 0 seeders and 0 leechers, but when I'm in utorrent I'm seeing 6-8 seeders. I'm confused as to why that isn't updating.
I just really want to make sure this file is available. Music curating is one of the most important things we can do.

I usually seed to a 200% ratio if it is something I'm just quickly downloading, It's swarm building if everyone who downloaded seeded the file to 200% then there would (In theory) be 2 people now with the file seeding to 200% making 4 people with the file and so on and so forth. Unfortunately that often doesn't work on non-private sites like TPB. You have those who supplement their uploads with multiple boxes (Like Warez) and if it is popular enough they never have to worry about it. Something like a specialized piece of software not commonly downloaded is going to require the uploader to remain seeding.
But you can always do your part and hope everyone else is doing theirs. I have some torrents I have seeded well over 5,000% mostly because of respect it is a hard to find show or movie or a well done release of a game that isn't a lot of work on my end is going to get my support. Quality Torrents > Quantity Torrents

If you are doing the initial seed, you stop when the availability is greater than 2. Doesn't matter how many seeds there are, even if there are none as long as there is 1 complete copy spread among the peers outside of yours.
If you have just finished downloading something, you stop after your share ratio is 1.0. If there is high availability, you can stop immediately and maybe come back some other time when availability is lower to get to 1.0
Seeding past either of these points can actually do more harm than good as now you are forcing others who might actually care to seed longer so they can get to 1.0. They might just give up and quit rather than wait. There are plenty of torrents I never seeded back to 1.0 because others just kept on seeding. Most of those torrents are still in my queue, so I might activate them some day and see if I can actually finish. Or I might just delete them. Point is, you are not always a good citizen for uploading more than you downloaded.
You can always come back to the swarm later and see if it needs a bit of help.
Of course, the reality is some people will quit early, and someone will need to pick up the difference to keep it alive. But you'll have to make the judgement call if any particular swarm is one of those.

I understand that it's not kosher to give a thank you post, but Moe, that is single-handedly the most important thing I've read on here. If it was posted somewhere else, I simply missed it. And I read a ton.
