^^^^ Ditto. I am a warrior. I enrolled after reading this on the print copy on that very day of 2008. But Demonoid was very selective at the time and became a member only several months later. Started with a NACA translation of a Russian textbook that the no-privilege undergrad student I was could not get from an inter-library loan.

I do it for knowledge, but I also do it to collect.
I suppose that since I buy my stuff too, the stuff I collect is not exactly pirated 100%.
Sorry for the grammar; head hurt from write.
But I tell you this: I don't like to "steal" things. Those who like to steal and get a thrill of doing so, I don't compare them to uploaders who risk their asses to bring free culture, or even great thinkers who give a damn about free culture. That's my two Canadian Dollars, but I can be wrong. If I am, then I'm sorry.

It is mosdef an ideology for me: a way of life that causes me much emotional and sometimes physical pain.
Put bluntly and simply: money and basing life on value systems especially financial ones MUST one day be abolished.
For humans to evolve and one day escape this planet, eliminating greed is essential otherwise we will eventually perish and become extinct.
TPB is on the front of the battle for true freedom.

Information (and by extension, all entertainment, as well) shouldn't be for the privileged few who can afford it. That's why.
And that should really be another option.

I totally agree with you !
If you have enough money, in this world, you can do or have whatever you want.

Why pay for things when you can get them for free? LOL. Seems self-evident to me.

Edit Reason: Lots of grammatical plotholes.

joew771, one reason - not all though - is for getting stuff that looks good on your shelf.
I have Lord of the Rings 1 and 3 bought. I also have them downloaded/ripped onto my hard drive (Volumes 1, 2, and 3). I don't have volume 2 bought, but I don't burn 2 onto DVD to make a point. My point is that each movie's box art is so lavish that I actually want the real version of 2. I don't intend to burn 2 (Two Towers) and I will continue to look for 2 if I can afford it.
In conclusion, this is why people would buy a retail copy.
I guess this is how the content makers - not the MAFIAA - makes themselves winners. I know, I know, this is like the actions of drug-addicts, but victory is a victory no matter what you call it.
Now how is this relevant? Simple, to answer your question. Why pay? Sometimes it's better than sex.

Never said I had enough money. We certainly don't. From my perspective, it's not about that. Sharing *all* information is too important to just take and never give back, as I see it.

That's rather silly. It looks good on your shelf? Really?
I can understand someone wanting to buy something to support the maker, but really? It looks good?

When I was younger I liked getting expensive and latest games for free, but now I tend to buy games instead of getting a pirated copy.
Over time it seemed I wanted to support developers of good content instead of pirating everything.
