I come into this from a different perspective, having been using both Win and Linux nearly from their beginnings.

Both OS's are tools, and you use the right tool for the right job. Though I have been known to garden with a sledgehammer.

Right now, I am not really fond of either.
Win, because M$ Security is a contradiction in terms.
Linux, because it is progressively becoming corporate crap in a death by a thousand cuts.

Win7 works for me because I took a digital chainsaw to it. It looks and acts like Win2000. It is faster and more responsive than Linux, though Linux is simply more comfortable to work with (except when it isnt).
Its mostly Posix, as I avoid M$ and Non-FOSS whenever possible.

Win10 sux rocks. It appears a bit unstable as its settings sometimes rearrange themselves. Its also heavily modified, and theres no way in hell I would want it as a primary OS, much less Win11.

I like to personalize my machines: As in claim control. I totally resent any ideas of 'security' that some pinhead might want to force on me. I hate Windoze networking, as much as I hate Linux sudo.

However: I fully understand why some folk such as RYP busy with a job and an avocation of processing and uploading high quality media may simply have neither the time nor inclination to hack away at their desktops.

In fact I would *not* recommend the OS hacker ethos to average folk who do not have the experience nor time to repair a potentially badly damaged OS. I would even recommend Win10/11 for average consumption usage. Mint might be OK for average userss without hardware driver requirements like specilalized drawing tablets, and lab eqquipment, but the typical prole would never have a clue how to search for compatible drivers for their hardware.

I'm in Win now, after getting utterly pizzed at Debian 10 for surreptitiosly updating the OS after being explicitly instructed to turn unattended-upgrades OFF. They screwed up the system, I removed the binary, and rebooted to Win. Apparently Redmond isnt the only place that ignores users.
