Warcraft III does not work on a Windows 7 Virtualbox VM

Question: which version of virtualbox are you using? I believe there are later stable releases than the one in the ubuntu repos --> https://download.virtualbox.org/virtualb..._amd64.deb

As for drivers, like I said, I don't even bother with it. I also see no where to choose OpenGL or other drivers for the VM. There is the Settings->Display dialogue under which I've allocated 128mb for video memory, set graphics controller to VBoxSVGA and enabled 3d acceleration...

Yes there are, but I use Linux Mint and Linux Mint is now using Focal's code base and will not advance until maybe after 20.3.

I'll try it and return to this thread with a follow-up.

EDIT: It is version 6.1.26 indeed, but it isn't Focal; it's Eoan, and the thing is, Focal succeeds Eoan.

I'll still try it, but I don't think I should be optimistic.

EDIT: Well, it seems that the DEB file has earned me a trip to dependency hell: just started up the DEB file and there's already a conflict that I have to solve.

Yes yes, but the ubuntu repos are rebottled debian repos look here: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=virtualbox

Also all virtualbox ubuntu/debian ports are "eoan", look here: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

SO... packages from virtualbox's page are 100% more likely to be more

Oh, I love Will Smith.

OK, trying.

EDIT: After installing the DEB, do I still need to find the Guest Additions too?

When I update my own I remove the previous installation before installing the new .deb. Since config files and other residue dont get erased with a simple sudo apt remove, the new installation retains my VMs with their configs and guest additions (installed to the VMs). If that was not the case on your end, reinstall [newest] guest additions - cant hurt

Still didn't work.

I'm trying older versions of VirtualBox. To me, it makes sense. After all, I only use it for games and other offline stuff, and since I won't go online, I'll be safe.

Which mint are you on? I am on xubuntu 20.04 LTS and I have had zero issues ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The dependency problem you have, and all the other problems... You are better off asking on a linux mint forum. Or the virtualbox forum.

As for reverting to older versions cause the game you wanna run is old makes little sense to me

If your laptop is near throwaway status why not try a clean install of latest LTS mint with latest Virtualbox?

I'm on version 20.2, the most recent one they put out, and as I said, it's based on Ubuntu's Focal, so both OSes are alike.

About trying older versions flying over your head: it makes little sense to me too, but I think it's a start because right now, I'l grasping for straws.

Listen, would it be an invasion of your privacy if you uploaded your virtual machine to me? If not, just decline; I'll live with it.

And my laptop is 32-bit, so little sense of finding the latest version of Mint as Mint stopped 32-bit support since the start of the pandemic. Not related, just a coincidence.

All right, back to work.

Haha the VM in question is 37gb with all the shit I have on it . If I PM you a magnet how many days you reckon it will take you to dl?

You could consider switching to xubuntu 20.04 LTS on your main machine... Rolleyes

And yeah, just set up your laptop with XP and enjoy carefree retro gaming

Perhaps one or two days if you PM me a magnet.

I'm used to getting large-ass files.

The reason I'm asking is not to invade your privacy, I can care less about what pics you have on your VM, and you can (or should) delete all private data, it's just that if none of the games you have on your VM doesn't work on my fucking computer, then I would know for certain that there's no point in going on.

That being said, I think I should try another OS.

I'll turn that to be my second-last alternative, the last being to tuck-tail and go back to a Windows host machine.

EDIT: Actually, if you just PM me the magnet, I think it'll just take the whole night. It is a slow connection by today's standards, but 37GB is still manageable.
