Update tracker button
#1
Well, I tried to use search and haven't found a similar thread so gonna write one.

It would be nice to implement on TPB an update tracker button which would check seed/leech stats and update the counter, it's sometimes a nice feature because some torrents don't update for a very high amount of a time.

in this post and several other threads, an admin has written something like:

I understand that. With this massive traffic, live stats would slow down site even further Sad . I'm not asking to have live stats just to manually be able to scrape stats from trackers when pressing "update tracker" button on TPB.

What difference does it make? Whatever stats are there are going to be close enough to give you some idea of the swarm size.

Either you are interested in the torrent or you are not. If you are interested, add the torrent to your client and if the swarm is there, you'll join it.

Well, my torrent client shows, for example, ~ 450 seeds; on tpb it always shows max 150 and tomorrow when people download and stop seed it just stay 150 or decrease further.

That button would help me to give a better example to people that there are actually a bigger number of seeds.

That doesn't answer the question.

What does it matter if there are 150 or 450 seeds. Regardless, you will be able to complete the download.

Yes, but the mentality of people is that they will download files only with high seed number, like those torrents with 4k seeds without even looking on rest of the torrents. For me, I upload x265 tv shows, but people will download those lower res ettv tv shows because it has thousand of seeds.  Sad

I doubt that's the only reason.

And I doubt even more that they would click an "update tracker" button and suddenly change their mind on which torrent to download.

If your goal is to attract more downloaders, don't be using x265. It isn't as widely supported.

Or you could continue making x265 for those who do want it, and they will continue to download regardless of what the swarm size is.

How about just not bothering showing any stats at all?
