Have you ever got trouble with pirated content at border ?

How long would it take a *fast* computer to crack a wireless laptop and grep the contents for keywords?
A good algorythm does not even ahve to search the whole drive. And imagine if it is doing this as soon as one enters the airport.

Newer systems have the bits to turn on a sleeping or even 'OFF' machine and do whatever they are instructed.
Think of the machines that can be flash bios'd without even having to turn on, or laptops that can be disabled if stolen - and extrapolate.

My main question is the best way to cross a border with a box of DVD and hard drives.

Back up to the cloud or your own server, then refill your laptop after you get it through.
Do the same on the way back. ‌ Obviously, use encryption, such as a VPN, at all times.

I guess many things, however unlikely, are probable.

I count myself lucky I'm not a lottery winner.

I smoke glue all the time. Elmer's is the best.

But still, all you people talking about scanning peoples computers and keywords and encryption and vpn's and all that need to stop being paranoid and live in reality, where such things just don't, and can't happen, at least not at airports.

jesus. what is the world coming to? The average IQ nowadays must be about 75.

Just because it hasn't happened in your sight doesn't make it "impossible".
Airport delays have reached legendary levels this year. ‌ Check the news. ‌ ‌ [Image: tongue3.gif]

You people seem to have a great deal of difficulty staying on topic.

The OP asked about border agents checking for pirated content, and we're still waiting to hear a single instance of such a thing happening.

This is a small forum. ‌ You can't expect a handful of people to have all the world's data on hand. ‌
If one wants to know of specific instances, ask at a big, busy forum or, as already suggested,
search for it using a big search engine like google.

The answer is really quite simple.

If they are checking your device, it is for evidence of a federal crime, which piracy is not.

So there will be exactly 0 instances of such a thing happening.

But they don't have to tell you what they are searching for or why when you are at the border. You don't even have to be suspected of anything.

You could cross the border with a hard drive explicitly labeled "pirated movies and software" and load it with exactly that. They don't care, and they can't do anything about it because you have violated no law they are responsible for enforcing. But they can still make a copy to check for other things, and probably enjoy the movies while they are at it.

I love the abuse that you guys at SuprBay give to each other.

In all seriousness, from what I've been told since childhood, piracy is, or at least in my country, the Great White North, a Federal offence.

Possession of pirated materials is a lot different than actively distributing it. My usage of piracy in that sentence was not a good choice.

I'm a little slow; please elaborate.
