If the notice came from your VPN service, then they honor DMCA and forward notices on the rights holder's behalf. If that is the case, it is time to find a new VPN service.

The main purpose of a VPN is to create a Virtual Private Network between two computers.  There are lots of different usages of such a networking configuration.

In the context of this forum, the purpose of using a VPN is to hide your ISP assigned IP address in a bittorrent swarm.  Most VPN services can be used in that context, but not all of them are going to guarantee that they won't forward DMCA notices.  In fact, few will say that they would ignore notices because that can take away a lot of their legal protections in whatever jurisdiction they reside.  That doesn't mean they won't take your money though.

If you got the notice from your ISP, then it is clear that your torrent client wasn't using your VPN connection.  That is not the fault of the VPN service.

I got both of them from my ISP. They told me that the movie companies or CBS or whoever it was had complained and they knew what files I had downloaded and they were correct.

The first time, my VPN may NOT have been on but the second time I got busted, I'm pretty damn certain it was on. Normally it's on all the time but I had a different color icon and it said
something about upgrading which I started doing but might have forgotten which could have been the reason for it not being on.

Anyway, after this happened, I saw something somewhere (man, don't ask me, I have super shitty memory) but it might have been in a youtube video. This dude said something about how movie
companies upload their own torrents and when you download them, they catch you that way.

That being said, all this goes right over my head so I don't know what's true or not. I would look the video up but for some reason, my browser history doesn't show the date a link was added
so to find it, I'll have to scroll through a shitlload of links to see if I can find it. I might still do that 'cause I'm curious where I found this and I would interested in what you pirates think about it.

I have someone that is going to help me and I've given him this link if he wants to read your responses and he might even chime in.

As for the VPN's comment about not condoning downloading files. Me personally, I have nothing to hide in my browsing. I don't make b o m b s, look at kiddie porn or shit like that so feel free to look at my browsing history.
The torrents were the ONLY reason for getting the VPN and according to my files, I've been with them for 5 years

As you state that this stuff goes over your head, you will have to trust me when I state that if it came from your ISP, your VPN was not being used.

The movie companies and all can't complain to your ISP if they don't know who your ISP is. They know who your ISP is when they spot your ISP assigned address in a swarm. If your VPN were on and working, they would see the VPN address and complain to the VPN operator.

It doesn't matter who originally shared the torrent or why.

The bottom line is either your VPN wasn't on, or wasn't configured to route your torrent client's traffic. Everything else after that really isn't relevant.

Replace "Blocked web" with "torrent download"

Basically, both times you got a note from your ISP it is because your straw was directly in the coconut or whatever that thing is.  Once you get your VPN sorted and know how to confirm it is working the jerkoff note senders will only see your VPN's straw in the coconut.

The VPN operators will see your straw, but they generally don't care what is going in the straw.

I absolutely understand what you mean but first of all, I already cancelled it, second, I'm pretty damn sure that at least the second time my VPN was running and third, I'm not trying that again right now as a third strike in such a short time might really get me in trouble.

I'm working on something else and after say, six months when things settle a bit, I may try it again with the seedbox and vpn option or something.

btw, some vpns do not cover torrent clients just your browser. also there's a vpn kill switch at least for windows: https://vpnlifeguard.blogspot.com/p/english.html
