I feel the "problem" with rifftrax is that there jokes hit on different levels, and also alot of there jokes are very esoteric

When i show my Younger Friends any RIFFTRAX other then the "BLUE" jokes or the jokes that are cracking on something on screen the number one complaint
i get is I DON'T GET IT ............

Now, I'm not saying I a genius or anything and when I did Overdraw at the Memory Bank (Pop-Up Annotion Video) I didn't relize the "LEVEL" of jokes i messed out on. Even MITCHELL the Annotion version. i think it sad that I have to show my younger friends something Like Samurai Cop not that its a bad Rifftrax but its one of the FEW that isn't so ESOTERIC

The other Problem I get from my OLDER FRIENDS who watch Rifftrax is that it's been awhile since they have seen the movie and ot that there not enjoying the riffs but they get "PISSED" when the riff goes over a key detail in the movie. Vaild point on there end IMO

But this is my thoughts and exposure to Rifftrax

First, thanks Shibby for getting the thread back on point.  I've been curious to hear (most) everyone's thoughts on the topic.

In my opinion, there has been a slight decline in what I would consider very "rewatchable" films in the RiffTrax catalog recently.  I use that term because I'm constantly rewatching old riffs and shorts.  I think at least part of the issue stems from not having movies that give them something to really hook into. There are several things that a movie can have that can help the writers get motivated and pump out good jokes.

• Very bad acting
  
• Unnatural dialog
  
• Sets/FX hampered by low/no budget
  
• At least one or two stand out characters (usually with some kind of weird trait)
  

These don't necessarily count for everything, particularly in bigger budget blockbuster-types.  But, I've really noticed that the more of these categories that are filled, the funnier they get.

You mentioned that they pick on white people for not being cool, etc. Yeah, that's because we (whitey) have owned everything in America since the beginning. We still own most of everything. An overwhelming majority of all the powerful positions at companies, in congress, etc. are all white people, mostly men. We are THE prime target for ridicule because who the hell can take it better than the most privileged group in the country? It's ludicrous to think making fun of the privileged is the same as making fun of the disadvantaged. I cannot wrap my mind around what kind of life you lead that makes your brain work (not work?) the way it does.

Call me whatever kind of libtard you like, I'm not okay with people like you. You make everything worse. Thanks for that.

Agreed entirely, and the newest one, The Visitor is a prime example. It had pretty much all of those things, and for the first time in a while I was engaged from beginning to end equally.

Did Napsterlawyer have a post that was deleted or something? Nothing I've seen him post warranted that kind of reply. I'm just confused. All I saw him say is he thinks anything can be joked about or made fun of, something I agree with for the most part.

I miss the days when Rifftrax did block buster movies. If I want B-movies riffered I can watch MST3K or Cinematic Titanic or others.

I liked that they took more recognizeable films and went to town on them.

The best riff's IMO are movies that are reasonably watchable on their own but have some silly plot elements and plenty of room for jokes.

The Marvel movies, the star wars prequels, the trek films, heck Top Gun and Point Break and perfect examples of that. They are all fair to excellent films that are watchable stand alone, but the rifftrax guys add something to them and make them better.

I miss those days.
