Anyone know how to rip content from video streaming sites?

Hello. I have a desire to properly rip content directly from video streaming services (e.g. Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, and Amazon Prime), mainly due to the fact that certain content from those services has yet to be shared online, and I want to preserve some of their shows/movies for archival purposes in case they get removed or edited. The content that I would like to rip is also not available on physical media (DVD or Blu-ray) which rules out the possibility of me buying the content and ripping it that way.

There is one roadblock that is stopping me from doing this: The DRM methods that the services are using. In my personal experience, I've tried using the widevine-l3-decryptor Google Chrome plugin to decrypt the DRM from Disney+, and although it worked, the video quality ended up looking like trash due to Disney+ restricting the resolution of their Widevine L3 streams (up to 512x288/384p for SD (usually 480p) content or up to 848x480p for HD content) with the exception of content where 5.1 surround sound is available (the majority of the content that I'm interested in ripping doesn't have surround sound). I know for sure that it isn't a limitation on how the content was uploaded because there are 480p (SD) or 720/1080p (HD) rips of some of the content that I've tried to rip, so surely there must be a way to rip the higher quality (Widevine L1) streams, but the methods are kept secret for certain reasons.

If there are any "Scene" stream-rippers lurking on this forum who can help me out with ripping content from these services, I'd appreciate it if you could PM me some advice on how I can capture the higher quality L1 streams from these services, as I'm really not interested in ripping at 288p.

Thanks in advance.

You're dealing with a bunch of variables as certain outlets have different ways of getting ways of getting content.

As well, some of these can be challenging in that you might need sign up and be a member.

Don't spread yourself too thin and try to get all these with a single piece of software or just one account.

For example, the WWE Network, now absorbed into Peacock, requires an account and, perhaps, a paid version of a piece of ripping software. If you're into getting content from NJPW World, you'll need another official account for that and a different piece of software.

I'll research through this, but don't be hopeful.

EDIT: Perhaps you should just stick to torrents; you don't need an account, nor another Mickey Mouse ripper, and it's all free! That's what I do! Big Grin

EDIT: I do know that with Facebook videos, you can use site-based ripping tools where you would just copy and paste the URL and you're set. I did that with Star Trek Aftershows, so maybe if you want extras with your favourite shows, you can do that. Will update and try to help you if I get more information.

EDIT: Have you seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kiVVdCw3ZI Didn't watch it all, but it does look like something that can help.

EDIT: Finally, get a VPN if you're doing this: without one, you may be locked out of content from other countries.

That would be an option if the content that I'm interested in was already ripped and shared on the torrent sites. The problem is there is certain content on these streaming services that either no one has ripped as of yet, have dead links/torrents, or are of low quality due to being older rips from before the services existed, hence why I would like to try to rip them myself. I've tried posting requests for some of these titles on various sites (including this one), but it seems as though no one is interested in (re)sharing some of this content.

What about the mobile downloading capability that these services offer? That could be the one weak spot that the scene rippers are exploiting since these quality restrictions mainly apply to PC web browsers. Theoretically they could be using a rooted Android device for downloading and decrypting content from these services, which may be an idea that I'll look into once I find more information about this method. Maybe some sort of Android TrustZone exploit?

Lots to learn, I got sick of dealing with the variables, rtmpdump.exe and command line gets the job done, but takes a lot of concentration and effort, there is now a paid program, it's expensive, works on Prime, Disney (added recently) and Netflix with more streaming sites to be added, it's buggy and takes patients, but once you know how to deal with the bugs it's excellent "Redfox Anystream"
