Have you been an anti-pirate in your life?
#1
I mean, have you been a hater of piracy, whether it's because it's your job or whether you have a philosophy behind it? If you have changed, how and why did you change?

See, I have never despised piracy, and I'm not lying, although I had to pick up the skills as it never was second nature; I had to learn how to do it, and accept the consequences.

The ones I'm talking about are the ones in the official boards of those that support everything except piracy. I hope that is self explanatory. Smile I do understand why they believe what they leave and talk how they talk. I don't agree with them, however.

So before you discovered TPB or discern as to why we do what we do, how did you perceive piracy? Was it unacceptable for you, or were you, like me, one who never really cared?

Let's make this a hot thread the way you always do!

no I have never been a anti-pirate if it cost money to get a full version or the trail won't let you try the whole program than i found torrent to get the program...

this is my belief If you like something you pirate you go out and buy it if not, you never wasted a dime on something you would never use again....

I'm a anti-pirate when it comes to greedy pirates.

You get your favorite show ONLINE for FREE. Yea, you're happy, who wouldn't? But ABC then pushed their, still FREE, ONLINE episodes one week later, you're pissed? Now you guys are just pushing your greed.

You can get your music, DRM free from most digital sources, but you still pirate, because...?

etc etc

your right on that even I have to admit that I still have programs that I won't pay for on my computer (5 actauly but i'm not paying 300$ for 2 animation programs, video editor, photo editor, or paint tool).
as far as my music I've got them off torrents then if I could find them I bought them from iTunes... the TV shit.... fuck the american shows I'll stick to my anime at least then I only have to wait on the next episode new episodes are on a weekly bases that is 100's of episodes ahead of the translated ones over here in america

I think that some of us do this for the wrong reasons. I think it should be about sharing not about "the rep". I have shared a lot over the last 16 years I have been involved in this thing, which is more than half my life and I grew up with it. I seed back and I share anything I think others could use or might need. I really hate the greedy pigs, n00bs and 1337 that do this for the wrong reasons. I actually read a long timer who said he/she doesn't seed back anymore because everyone just takes and takes but isn't that the same f*ing thing? I have never been anti-piracy except for those that say f the community. that is what it is about to me. EXCELLENT TOPIC BTW @ RobertX, I am enjoying teh responses.

Depends on how you define anti-pirate... i guess you can call me both. I do think people should be able to make money from writing software, making music, films, etc... but at the same time i think all the DRM is shit and that the artist are losing money to the companies trying to control them.

I don't even really play modern video games because the artist who made the old school video games have been replaced with pretty graphics and boring play, and alot of games are unplayable without having to pay money to buy shit in games or it throws off balance in pvp or whatever.

Old school games like chrono trigger, legend of zelda: link to a past, etc didn't have modern HD models but the layout of dungeons etc was so well done they were great. I think alot of modern shit has lost the charm, the adventure, exploration, etc. Not all and some still are ok but to much focus has been put on models and not enough on the layout and gameplay. Hence i don't see wanting to pay $60 for these games but when i find one i like i don't mind paying.

The last game i paid for was FF Tactics for my ipad and i kinda regret it because i didn't realize it was the redone version, the original was better although i can deal with it. I played through it once and don't play it anymore because it is just to frustrating to deal with the touch interface.

I also think developers these day listen to much to the players when designing games. The problem with making say an MMO when you listen to the players is you end up making shit that has no sense of accomplishment. (hence WOW) The things i remember about playing EverQuest was the times i got frustrated and had to work at stuff. Most of that shit wasn't even normal game shit it was side quest / collecting some random item that doesn't help you out, not the hand me out best gear in the game like WOW. WOW pisses me off because of the retarded enrage timer, why can't i go in with 3 really good players and kill bosses because it "enrages" after so long. That is stupid, only very rarely is it ok to say you need X number of DPS to get past a point. Some of my fondiest memories of EverQuest were taking in 6 elite players and wiping out bosses that were designed for 25-50 people to kill. I have even been part of a raid that watched 120 people die to and than we walked up with 20 and beat with zero deaths.

Well you can't make a game with 6 million or more players without getting people who complain about it being to hard or being to easy. If I could I would rather play the game alone, but that's not the core idea with the game Tongue

sammy: that's not being an anti-pirate. You don't really give back to the actual developer. IMO, Seeding 0% or Seeding 300% makes no difference when it comes to that point.

I guess I lost focus in my Angry I agree with any pirate who says to support the artist, developer, or production company. I still purchase all of my games instead of pirating as I don't want to limit gameplay as many cracked games do. As far as music I occasionally download a cd that I really want but mostly I will listen on spotify which I happily pay for unlimited access so I can use on my mobile. As far as movies, I will see some in theaters that should be seen in theaters(ie. Ender's Game, Avatar, etc.) and thne I will download when they come out so I can have my own copy. I have noticed that boxoffice sales are watched more than DVD sales so I do not feel too bad about it. I For TV shows, I have cable but no DVR so I use TPB as my DVR Big Grin I work in a restaurant so I am not home during prime viewing hours and I already pay for cable so maybe thats my rationalization but it seems fair. Shit, so I guess my answer is I am not, nor have I ever been anti-pirate as everyone has a reason or a situation that could cause them to pirate. If it gets to the point where they are shutting down movie companies because they are not making money then maybe, just maybe will I stop but other than the world spinning off its axis I will sail the seas until I die.
