retail copy watermarks?
#1
i dont know if this is the right place to ask so you mods can move or merge with other topics if needed.

i was wondering if the retail and rental copies have watermarks that can identify their purchase or rental house?

seeing that all the good release groups are gone i am surprised no one is ripping and posting raw bluray rips of the latest movies from their retail or rental disks.

i mean  for $1 per day you can get a movie from the redbox vending machine (not to be confused with redbox payphone emulator) and for a varying amount up to $50 a month you  can rent from netflix so i would think someone would rent or buy rip and post.

so i wonder if movies have watermarks that can identify their source once they hit retail and rental level.

The short answer is no.
If you're upset at movies not being released, you're either looking in the wrong place or...
Start renting and ripping yourself to help others.

i was wanting to make sure they are safe to post because i have read of horror stories of watermarks mostly on the internal copies

There wouldn't be any point--they couldn't sue WalMart, or stop supplying them, if someone who bought a disk from there later ripped it--so, no.

no but they could trace the source and then subpoena walmart or netflix for the list of people who rented that copy and place taps on the internet.

Yeah, right, and they could be sitting outside your house right now waiting to tail you when you go shopping to see what you buy, just in case you pay cash.

no it is more like studios would read the watermark and each series of serial numbers for example is assigned to a region just like a zip code and they could then subpoena the dealer because example in point.

i bought a playstation 3 from walmart and i was toying around with the idea of removing the hard drive and then re sealing the box to make it look like it was never opened and returning it.

only problem if they put the item back on the shelf and someone buys the unit missing the hard drive and it does not work they would exchange it defective.

then sony may see the drive missing when trying to refurbish and may then look up the serial number and go back to the walmart that returned the unit and then subpoena the buyers to then try to sue for fraud for example.

in the end i kept the playstation due to the fact there was a serial number and credit card involved

that is why i wanted to ask if any watermarks exist in retail disks?

sorry for the long explanation

and that is why i was wondering why no one seems to have posting raw rips of retails

You have no idea how the retail industry works then.

Walmart are not in the business of refurb, all the returns are either destroyed or returned to supplier.
No traceability is kept, or used.
