Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 10
#11
i don't play dvds FROM the dvd drive, i only use the dvd drive to TRANSFER the movie to the hard drive.
i play the dvds FROM the hard drive. i suppose i could use anydvd to set all region codes on the dvd, but i'd rather use dvdfab.
and if you want to play dvds on wmp, use windows 7.

OK. thanks.

So I take it that you use DVDFab to transfer the files?

Hey RobertX, just in case you didn't know, bear in mind that MPC and MPC-HC are not the same thing. MPC still needs external codecs installed (if I am not mistaken) thus it is reasonably bundled with codec packs such as K-Lite. MPC-HC, which is the link AncientRome included in his/her post, is a standalone player (much like VLC) and requires no additional codec installations to play "most" everything.

Here is an  official sounding quote about MPC-HC:
"It's not player job to bypass region check. We use Microsoft DVD Navigator filter and we will continue to do so.
You can open VTS_N_0.IFO directly and MPC-HC VTS Reader will work regardless of the region."

So, if you right click and explore the DVD instead of trying to autoplay, and open the VIDEO_TS with MPC-HC, in theory it should play any region. At least, if you already use MPC-HC it's worth a try.

it's what i'd use, if i needed, but i haven't used it in a long time.
and now that i've read the above post, i think i should be more specific
and say that i use the HC version of MPC.

I just want to tell everyone, as if they care, that I am going back to using Windows Media Player 12 for Windows 7.

Windows 8.1 and 10 didn't register my on board display card anyway, so fuck that.

OK, thanks to all who participated in giving me some information. I will not overlook this deed.

Why would you use WMP anyway?

Because, despite the fact that it needs codecs, I always found a love for it because it's a "one size fits all" kind of thing, although I would need AnyDVD to watch my Hong Kong DVDs. It plays all: DVDs,V/SVCDs, audio CDs, and files.

Another reason I like it is that it came with the Windows 7 OS with the ability to play DVDs, XVID, MP3s, and VCDs out of the box. It would only need K-Lite Codec Pack to play a little more. When something useful like WMP comes with the OS, an imprint comes into my head telling me not to install something else. I guess I am "obsessive compulsive." It's probably the same I reason I use VLC and Banshee (www.banshee.fm) on Linux Mint.

There, my two Canadian dollars.

We all have our favourite media player. Mine one is VLC Tongue

So do I; I liked the idea that it can run DVDs of all of the world's regions through the player and play all audio and video files without a codec pack. All in one!

Although Windows 7's WMP12 isn't all region, it's still all-in-one with AnyDVD decrypter and the codec pack.

Anyone here have a Macintosh favourite in terms of media-playing?

I know, I know, I'm hijacking my own thread. I'll change the title.

EDIT: Fuck. I can't change the topic name. Oh well. Just talk.
