What kind of USB port is this?
#1
My gateway sx2370-ur10p has 11 USB ports
5 in the front 2.0. 6 in the back 4 are 2.0 and 2 are 3.0
One of them is different it has 2 bronze vertical lines in it with 2 bronze pins that point out

ALL other ports are the normal rectangular ones
I connect something to it like a mouse or keyboard etc but it doesn't work
The cable fits but it doesn't fit completely aka locks in
What kind of USB port is it? The specs of the PC don't anything about a different kind of USB port

could be a 4 pin firewire port

firewire is a sort of v shape, the cables are different.

Might be that one is for supplying power when the os isn't running.

Strong possibility that as Kingfish stated, it is a "Sleep-and-charge port". If the port is yellow, that tends to denote that it is a "Sleep-and-charge port". If peripherals don't function when plugged in, then it is likely a charge port.

From appearances, it could possibly be a squared-off "Type-B" or a "Standard-B" with that number of pins and alignments, but if peripherals don't function when plugged in, then the likelihood is that it is a charge port. Or broken.

Same thought I had. Not all usb headers on the case are connected to the MOBO.

Not FireWire Sleep n charge port that does what exactly?
Pretty sure it's not broken my PC is barely over a year old and I rarely use the USB ports the PC sometimes has trouble waking up from hibernation
Even when I press the mouse n keyboard
Sending it to gateway in TX still under warranty by them and square trade

When S&CP's were first introduced, it was primarily on notebooks, but now you can find them on some desktops as well. Many people were using them to charge their mobile devices off their notebook power. Even on a desktop, the ports have their uses. Some techies speculate that S&CP's will become an industry standard eventually.

as darkj6 pointed out, it's definitely broken. There should be a plastic tab in there that those two "bronze pins" rest on.
