VPN and La la la and that S%&

Hello
Theres a few things i need to know

1. Internet throttling... my isp throttles me i need a vpn, now i was wondering something, i know that having a vpn lowers your internet speed... alot... (depening on your service package that is)in the US they have some packages of 100MBs if the owner has a vpn it operates at a static 3MBs (it dosent have to be 3MBs but you get my point)

Now my problem... as i said previously my isp throttles me and i want a vpn, my internets crap my isp is Xplornet i paid 89.99 for 5.0 MBs but my actual internet download speed is 500 KBs, as you can see if i got my hands on a vpn it would boost it to somewhere around 3MBs (thats if the vpn download speed really is static...) as i remember a quote from that ceo of that company on a website somewhere he said: “yeah I throttle the shit outa my customers what of it?” yeah... like i put trust in to them...

2. Fake email... i like the idea of PIA when they said you should have an anonymous email and pay with gift cards or bitcoins am going with gift cards
My problem theres hundreds of them, anonymous email, anonyemail whatever... i was wondering if theres a way you could fake email sign up such as yahoo (yahoo requires phone number and postal code)

3. Technical thoughts... ok i use a satellite for internet, does a vpn work with them? Does it still keep me anonymous? Does it still increase my internet speed? (i use a satellite because i live on the mountains of canada)

1. they might not be throttling your speeds at all as i think you are confusing bytes with bits.

2. choose an email provider that does not require a phone number... gmail does not require a phone number nor does hushmail...

keep in mind, they are real email addresses and function as such. if you want a fictitious email address, just use your imagination.

3. a vpn will work with a satellite connection. it can help keep you anonymous. it will decrease your internet speed.

Here's a test you can run to see if your connection is being throttled: http://broadband.mpi-sws.org/transparency/bttest.php

Stormium is right I think. You are confusing bytes with bits. Which isn't too surprising, since most providers give their speed in Mb (bits) because the number is about 8 times bigger than MB (bytes) and it sounds better for them when marketing. For a 5Mb (which is 5 megabits, NOT megabytes) connection, your download speed should max out around 640kb. So 500kb speed, while not exactly what you should be getting, isn't too far off. So it may just be the amount of traffic, if on a shared connection, or any number of other things affecting the speed, not necessarily throttling.

Also, a VPN may say it's speed it X,Y, or Z, but it isn't going to be able to go faster than your provider's internet speed. You go through your provider first, before you ever get to a VPN. The speed of a VPN will always be less than (or rarely, if ever, equal to) your provider's speed.
