Urgent Help: Can't get my own torrent to seed
#11
First thing to do is to make sure your client shows that the torrent is seeding and not downloading.

Next thing to do is to make sure you have DHT working, as unless you add the trackers TPB uses in it's magnet links, DHT is the only way peers will be able to find you.

Lastly, while not necessary, being able to accept incoming connections will increase the number of peers you can connect to.

I can't figure out how to get it to go from "downloading" to "seeding", that's the problem.

I googled DHT and I can't quite figure out much about it, but I did add the trackers TPB uses in its magnet links so I hope that's enough.

Also, what do you mean by being able to accept connections?

I've tried that to no avail unfortunately.

..and I received NO torrent file!
But, my client did get the entry.
That is; there is NO file in my torrent dir! That's a first!

My guess is it's not your client, but something in you directory structure
and how you are creating the new torrent.

I use uTorrent 2.2.1 to create mine.
All my files are in sub directories of C:/downloads
All my torrent files go in C:/downloads/torrents

Okay, can you possibly test this one for me?

When you initially make the torrent, some clients have the option to immediately start seeding. If your client doesn't, then when you add the torrent, you should make sure the save directory is the same as where the torrent content resides. It should automatically detect the content and start seeding it. If it doesn't, it is not finding the content, likely because you are pointing it to the wrong place. The easiest way is to just put the torrent content in the same folder you download to.

There isn't much to figure out with DHT. Just find the setting and enable it. It is generally enabled by default, so you would have had to intentionally disable it. But there should be a status somewhere that confirms it is working. If it is enabled and not working, then chances are you will not be able to announce to the trackers TPB uses so peers will not be able to find you. Both rely on being able to make outgoing UDP connections. If your client can't, it is because some firewall software is blocking it.

Being able to accept incoming connections almost always means you have to configure your router to forward the port(s) your client is configured to listen on.

That's what I did. That's why I'm so confused as to why it's not working. I've doubled checked it like 10+ times now just to make sure I'm not being an idiot and pointing it to the wrong spot.

I looked up how to enable DHT in Deluge, but unfortunately it seems like this setting is unavailable currently so I don't know what to do there, I guess just leave it and hope it's enabled.

Tried your latest torrent,it shows 2 seeds, no file size & no files.
Like Moe said make sure the file folder you are trying to share is
is in the same place your client downloads to.
Also make sure you save the created .torrent file the the same
folder that Deluge saves all other .torrent files.

In your earlier screen shot you had DHT enabled, it's under preferences/network.

Edit: I just used 'Deluge' to create a quick Torrent, lol, it reminded me why I still
use a 8 year old uTorrent! (too many steps & fields)

I don't know where uTorrent downloads to unfortunately, but I'm guessing it's just the Downloads folder.
I made the torrent with uTorrent this time so where would I save the torrent file I created?

Also, thank you for letting me know. I'm glad it's enabled.

Thanks!

Side note: The torrent was seeding perfectly fine in uTorrent and then all of a sudden I got this error saying "The system cannot find the specified path." even though I hadn't touched anything on my computer I was away for a moment doing household work. Any idea why it would do that?

You must have fixed the path... it's downloading now!

Then it stopped suddenly for a minute, now it's working again.

It's starting & stopping, don't change a thing if it's working!

I got 4mb downloaded before you stopped.. lol.

Yeah, I got it working and then it came up with that error and now I can't get it to go back. :'(

So now I deleted that last torrent so I could reupload it but with the new torrent file, but I got the "Torrent already exist in the system" error. As you can see, the torrent does indeed not exist.
