'Bandolero'

and here's something from their 2015 album, Planetario:

Copa de Manana

meh, I prefer their older stuff, the latest album is messy and weird. Tongue

From Java, Indonesia.

Dangdut is a genre of Indonesian folk and traditional popular music that is partly derived from Hindustani, Malay, and Arabic music. Dangdut is a very popular genre in Indonesia because of its melodious instrumentation and vocals. Indonesians dance in the ghoomar style to dangdut music. Dangdut features a tabla and gendang beat.

I don't know if this is actually Arabian or just inspired, but I really like to listen to this mix while studying. It's about an hour long:

Just a little oud music to wind down to:

Is this thread about world music, meaning ethnic music from anywhere in the world, or what might be called light, relaxing, crossover music? This cut would be both, but I'd like to know for the future. Thanks.

Mamadou Diabate

Tunga

Released: 2000

The kora is a string instrument with a harp-like sound and has been a part of traditional African tribal music for centuries -- and for the most part, traditional settings are where you can expect to find it. Nonetheless, the kora hasn't been excluded from African pop, and it is used for both traditional and more modern sounds on this rewarding album by Malian kora virtuoso Mamadou Diabate. Coming from a family of Manding griots, Diabate is well schooled in traditional tribal music but is also open to more modern elements. Much of Tunga is quite traditional -- "Djanjo," for example, is a piece that goes back to the 13th century. Whether he is incorporating Western elements or favoring a traditional approach, Diabate brings a lot of charisma to this engaging, mostly instrumental album.
