The Rifftrax Live: Spider Invasion show, that is, the final live show for this year! Those who are going, good. Enjoy and let us know how it is.

And if anyone got the digital code for the digital goodies page after it's over, please share it with us.  Big Grin

Well, well. The show isn't out yet and you are the first to figure it out. I'm impressed.  Wink

It was... okay. I thought Space Mutiny was pretty bad and you could feel all the spaces where there should have been jokes but there was just dead air instead. This had some of that, but there was a lot that was really good, especially the short, "Adventures In Telezonia" (look it up on YouTube; it's weird). Maybe I'm biased because Giant Spider Invasion is my favorite episode, but I think it's just the overall joke frequency of Rifftrax these days and the limited number of writers. (Often these days, you get riffs that are written by Mike, Sean, and Conor without Bill and Kevin doing any writing passes.) The speed of jokes is getting slower and slower and when they go back to the well of MST3K episodes, it really shows the difference in tone between the two products. Also, even with the short, it was barely an hour and 40 minutes. Their live shows feel like they've been creeping down substantially from 2 hours to just over an hour and a half.

Also, did anyone notice weirdness with the print or their digital transfer of it? It seemed like there would be scenes that would be incredibly clear and crisp compared to the MST3K print, but then a shot that was perfectly normal on MST3K would be slightly out of focus for this version.

i also noticed a lack focus in a couple of scenes, but can't say for sure whether those same flaws were in the MST3K copy since that seems worse all around. for example, I never caught on that Dutch and Helga were the ones that the backwoods couple were each fooling around with until I saw this version.

I too have noticed that the latest live shows have been very short, more around the 90 minute mark. When they did shorter movies they used to usually do two shorts beforehand; seems like they've foregone that.

Octaman was egregiously short. I felt pretty cheated about that whole experience. I know it's been 30 shows now, but I don't know if they're phoning it in or just getting tired.

I got to admit, I thought the live shows so far are funny and great in my opinion. I can't wait to get the Spider Invasion one in time for Halloween.  Big Grin

That's interesting - I wonder if they think a tight 90-minute show is better than going for two hours? I enjoyed Octaman, although it's a little odd that Kevin and Bill seem to have stopped writing material.

(I highly recommend the Bridget/Mary Jo riffs, which appear to have completely different writers).
