So, do we still need to worry about DMCA notices now that we are able to live stream

So, I bumped into this article and they're emphasizing the use of VPNs while torrenting. I am just curious if it's still necessary anymore not that we have Torrents Time and live streaming of torrents.

You will need a VPN anyway. If you get caught streaming copyrighted content, then it's a bad news for you brother.

Streaming torrents is exactly like torrenting, but with one step added:

1. The client (in our case Torrents Time) downloads the movie
2. After download is complete, it starts playing it (in browser) << the added step
3. After download is complete, it start seeding it (while the movie is playing)

You need exactly the same precaution measures as you were downloading a torrent. (if you need any in the first place)

No matter what, it can't be emphasized enough. If you plan on watching things/getting things, that you haven't paid for.

Use a VPN. I can highly recommend buying a VPN-Router. That way you can protect all your devices, without any hassle. There is a big variety of VPN-Routers, but i would recommend one compatible with DD-WRT. You can buy it pre-flashed, or you can flash it yourself. It supports OpenVPN protocol, which is preferred. Another reason to pick a VPN-Router, and not just a VPN-Software, is that you don't have to worry about DNS or WebRTC leaks.

OP link is spam.
Torrent time is a scam.

"This means that you will now be able to play your favorite TV shows and movies directly with a single click on the link without any hassle of downloading a torrent file, or waiting long hours for it to download completely."

If the torrent takes hours to download, the streaming will take the exactly same amount of hours.
Downloading is "a hassle"? This people is lazy as fuck.

"We all know that streaming copyrighted content is unarguably an illegal act." Fuck you, retarded prick.

"Therefore you have to use a VPN in order to protect yourself". Scammer.

"We will allow everybody to watch any movie they wish from torrent sites that embed us, when they want, without having to store someone’s file on their hard disk"

This people is just retarded or what? Of course you download the file, the fact that it's deleted afterwards is irrelevant from any point of view.

"But it is to be informed that Ivacy VPN does not encourage any illegal use of torrents."
WHAT!!!???
"Imagine what would happen if you get caught watching copyrighted content. Therefore you have to use a VPN in order to protect yourself"

P2P streaming is harmful for filesharing, they just want to make money out of it, out of your bandwidth. Fuck them.

I ain't even read the article..

But now, I agree with Connor.
In the next lines, I will explain, just like Connor did, the affirmations that make this article and TT a big biig liar and scammer at the same time:

Quote:This means that you will now be able to play your favorite TV shows and movies directly with a single click on the link without any hassle of downloading a torrent file, or waiting long hours for it to download completely.

Does the guy who wrote the article know anything about what is he talking about? Or does he think we are all idiots? In any case, fuck you Ivacy!
>> If the torrent takes hours to download, the streaming will take the exactly same amount of hours.  ~connor17 Why? Because Streaming torrents is exactly like torrenting

Quote:We all know that streaming copyrighted content is unarguably an illegal act. Moreover, when you will click the “Play” button, you will be prompted that your IP address is exposed and to make it anonymous, you have to buy a VPN.

[Image: FireShot-Capture-3-Eyebrows-Raised-as-Th...pirate.png]

Dude, if this is not an interstitial ad, I don't know what it is...
So, (having the next invalid affirmations as premises) they are lying to me saying that I should use a VPN and at the same time tricking me to use it and to pay money for it.

Quote:Imagine what would happen if you get caught watching copyrighted content. MPAA and RIAA can force your ISP to hand over the user’s information if the individual is involved in outright piracy to a great extent.

MPAA and RIAA can indeed force your ISP to hand over the user’s information but this requires a court order and it happens in very very rare cases.

Quote:A lot of Torrent users receive DMCA notices and even are penalized according to the law

Lies! A lot (or some, I don't know, and it's irrelevant in this context) of Torrent users do receive DMCA notices but they are not penalized.

Quote:These institutions will become even more vigilant after the implementation of Torrents Time by Pirate Bay and other famous torrent websites.

They may become more vigilant, but this does not change anything because TT works just like any other torrent client.

Quote:Therefore you have to use a VPN in order to protect yourself, your identity and ensuring your privacy.

The same scam like above: "We all know that streaming copyrighted content is ... . .. . "

Quote:We will allow everybody to watch any movie they wish from torrent sites that embed us, when they want, without having to store someone’s file on their hard disk.

I really laugh at this one: Not storing the file on hard disk? Then where the hell is the downloaded file downloaded? In RAM maybe?
>> This people is just retarded or what? Of course you download the file, the fact that it's deleted afterwards is irrelevant from any point of view. ~connor17

Quote:We have tested the streaming of the videos on Pirate Bay using Ivacy VPN’s servers which are specifically optimized for P2P file sharing and torrenting. But it is to be informed that Ivacy VPN does not encourage any illegal use of torrents.

Mate, if the VPN is specifically optimized for P2P file sharing and torrenting, how the hell Ivacy VPN does not encourage any illegal use of torrents  ??

Additional notes: To stop believing myths about DMCA, MPAA and many other things related to what happen if you're caught, read this article from TorrentFreak (it's quite old, but still valid): https://torrentfreak.com/riaa-mpaa-copyr...on-090328/

Let's stop and address the main misconception about this whole thing: you aren't streaming anything.

The Torrents Time plugin is a bittorrent client, just like uTorrent, Vuze, and the rest.  Nothing has changed except now the bittorrent client is embedded in your browser and conveniently plays whatever it is you wish to watch after it has downloaded a sufficient amount to start playing.

Blame it on BitTorrent (the company). They have a long and ignoble history of mis-using technical terms and they were the first to offer what-they-called "streaming" in their uTorrent client.

Originally, "streaming" was what you did with youtube and other such "watch online" sites. You received a stream of data from a single source and it was played as it was received.

That is what "streaming" means in the minds of the majority and that is why it means that.

Torrents, on the other hand, were "downloaded" from multiple peers and then, after they had been completely downloaded, they were played.

While you were at some risk (much smaller than people think but still) of having your IP recorded when downloading, you were at less risk (but still some risk, in spite of what people think) of having your IP address recorded when streaming.

So a VPN was legitimately useful when downloading, and not really necessary when streaming.

BitTorrent wanted to take some of the action from the streaming sites, so they embedded a video player into their torrent client, and tweaked the client so it would try to download pieces in sequential rather than random order (thereby fucking everybody over by reducing the efficiency of the protocol and reducing download speeds for everyone) and called it "streaming" even though it wasn't streaming in the sense that everyone understood the term.

Torrents-Time has now taken this a step further and instead of using a torrent client as a video player it has used the web browser as a torrent client (and video player) and, following in the footsteps of BitTorrent, they have also called this "streaming".

But, as Moe points out, it is not streaming in the sense that everyone thinks of when they see the word. The OP's confusion is not unique--millions of people no longer know what the fuck they are actually doing--or the harm they are doing to the filesharing community--as a result of the greed of these companies and their deliberate misdirection.

tl; dr = yes, the use of VPNs is still necessary
