An Iranian Energy Ministry official said on Sunday that Russia had awarded the contract for construction of Iran’s Sirik Power Plant to the Power Machines after the company agreed to provide 1.2 billion euros in finances for the project.
Power Machines replaces Technopromexport, a company initially assigned to build the 1.4 gigawatt electricity station in southern Iran.
Khaefinejad said Iran has assigned 200 hectares of lands in Sirik, a small coastal town in Iran’s province of Hormozgan, to enable the new Russian contractor to start works on the power plant.
He said the project is expected to finish in less than six years, adding that the Iranian government and its domestic contractors will be responsible for 15 percent of all finances, or 200 million euros, and a third of construction operations in the project.
The Sirik power plant will operate on a 46-percent efficiency rate in four 350-megawatt units, said Khaefinejad, adding that representatives from Iran and the Power Machines had held some 90 meetings since March to finalize plans for the joint project.
Iranian officials had earlier indicated that Russia would commit to a new contractor in the Sirik project, a power plant which would be key to Iran’s massive development plants in energy-starved regions on the Persian Gulf coast.
Sirik would be the fifth power plant built by the Russians in Iran.
