Ripping CDs & DVDs
#31
I always use Handbrake.

However, I've been observing that even with AnyDVD for defeating protections, I cannot rip all of the clips. Either that, or the videos are corrupted.

Therefore, just use Handbrake either for movies without extras and download TV episodes, leaving the ripping for the professionals. Smile

EDIT: By the way, can I talk about video DVDs here, or am I off-topic?

I even changed the one setting to "High Quality Encoding 2 pass", & it still looks like shit.

Can someone tell me what to change in here so it at least looks the same as the DVD itself.

As I understood, you wanted copies of the DVDs. It sounds like you're re-encoding them. That's not the same thing. When you copy the contents of a DVD you get a VIDEO_TS folder with .VOB files in it. This is an exact copy of the DVD.
When you encode a DVD you generally make lower quality versions of the original. Encoding to decent quality takes a bit of experience and know how.

Try one of these to copy the DVD> https://thepiratebay.se/search/dvdfab%20...opy/0/99/0

Sorry for the delay. I'm VERY stressed with this move. I have a million things to do & that includes ripping tons of DVDs & CDs & trying to scan paperwork too.

Anywhoo, I didn't realize there was a difference. I thought I was copying the DVDs & no, they are coming out as MP4. That's what a friend said to do, but I admit, he's better at hardware than software.

I already have DVD Fab vs. 9.1.1.5, so if you just tell me what to do/change, I'll do it b/c I stopped ripping. The quality is terrible.

Thanks Smile

You can select languages, subtitles, menus, etc. If you want to burn it afterwards it's better to select ISO file as output. It's a free program.

No I don't want to burn to a DVD afterward. I figured that just keeping the files & then putting them on a stick is the way to go b/c I have to move again in about 4 months after this.

I just don't understand why the TV shows & movies on TPB come out crystal clear (with the odd exception) & mine look terrible Sad

I tried to find the software you recommended & went to this page [1:06:11 AM] Michelle Rapid Financial Solutions: https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/5609503/...DVDCRYPTER

But one of the comments said the software wasn't to be trusted & to go here - doom9.org I went there, but I was just reading comments, I didn't know where to look for the software & nor do I know who to trust now Sad

Can you direct me pls.

I'm moving next Wedn., so I have to get this all done before then.

Thanks & have a good night. Smile

On another note, I'm getting really pissed off by this CD Rom. it works one minute & then the next it's not. I ripped 5 CDs & now I can't get it to select the next CD that's showing up in the EZ CD Audio Convertor software. I can check off the bottom checkbox, but not the top one & when I go to rip, it opens a dialogue box. And yes I even rebooted, that didn't solve anything. Sad

I don't have dvdfab installed but from what I understand there should be a 'DVD Copy' option available. Choose the 'full disc' option for a 1:1 copy of the dvds..

..and look what I found > http://www.dvdfab.com/manual/introductio...he-program

That should set you straight.
Good luck.

Ok, I did that & I think it's better, but I have to test it out more now. I didn't even know there was a difference between copying & ripping. I thought I was ripping. Maybe I thought copying was to a DVD.

The problem now is that instead of it copying as one file like the ripping did, it's making it several files & I can't tell if each one makes up the ONE that was ripped or what's going on.

And still some of these DVDs aren't being recognized by DVD Fab or even the CD software isn't recognizing some CDs.

Very frustrating.

Thank you for your help.

You should have a bunch of files with the extensions .vob, .ifo, .bup, all inside a VIDEO_TS folder.
The .vob files will contain the video and audio streams. The .ifo files are the index files for the DVD announcing how and in which order the streams should be played.
You can drop the lead .ifo file into VLC media player (for example) and the DVD will be played exactly as if you inserted the disc.
Later you could rip these files to smaller files (encoding) to save space on your drive, or you could burn them back to disc if you so wished.

As for the dvds not being recognised, do you have varying US / European discs? DVDs with different regions? If your drive is set to NTSC it won't read PAL (and vice versa) without a tweak.
Otherwise you may want to check your drive, or maybe invest in an external / replacement.

Hi,

But all the files have content on them, not just one, that's what I'm saying. There's about 4 different files, whereas when I ripped them it only came out as one. I already deleted the non VLC files.

Ok, I just clicked on the .iso & .vob files. The 2 vobs look to be the same, but the iso's aren't indexes, they are actually 2 different files with different content.

To figure out what's what & what's a duplicate for every DVD would take forever Sad

Also no, those DVDs are all from the US. They were created by people like Windsor Pilates, T. Harv Eker, so while they were probably somewhat professionally done, they were done like you'd get if you bought a DVD from a store although I shouldn't say that b/c you can buy Windsor Pilates from a store.

The best thing for you is what I used to do some years ago.
You use DVDShrink. You rip DVD9 to DVD5. You delete all the menus and dub audios. You will get a compresion of about 80-90%, depending on the film. That's barely noticeable. DVDShrink does it in ten minutes, no more.
You copy to ISO. ISO can be read with VLC perfectly, there's no need to use another format, and you can burn it to DVD-RW if you want. Any DVD player will read that DVD-RW, no matter how old because DVDShrink doesn't change the format of the original DVD.
You only need a 5 or 10 DVD-RW pack, you burn 5 movies, and after watching them, you delete them and burn another 5 ones. If you don't want to burn anything you can watch the ISO files directly with VLC.

Yeh this is all too confusing for me. If anyone out there can PM me & we can Skype & you can come on here & tell me which end is up, that would be MUCH appreciated.

I DLed DVD Shrink & it did whatever it did, but again there's too many files. I just want one file just like the DVD is in one file.

I don't understand all the settings, I need someone to show me while I write down instructions & then I'll know what to do after that.

Thank you for everyone's help Smile
