Ripping CDs & DVDs

It has Mac verison available if you want to handle that task on a Mac.

No CD in hand, so I don't know the way to rip the file from CD.

Hi Halberd,

I guess I DLed the one that doesn't let me do anything.

I just tried to find it on TPB & it's not coming up Sad

AppGeeker DVD Ripper

Ok, I just started finally using the EAC & it's not ripping to FLAC, it's only ripping to WAV. How do I get it to rip to FLAC?

Also, it's making each track one audio file. Is there a way to join them together so they are in one file like the one CD I ripped from?

Thanks

Oh one more question... Since my CDs aren't music, there's no way they are going to be found in any DB, so is there any way to name the files before it starts ripping, or I will always have to wait until it's done?

Hi everyone. Happy new year.
I really don't undestand all the EAC thing. You need over an hour to rip a cd, and the result is exactly the same as the one you get with any other program. The real point here is the log file. And what is that? It's just a text file that "proves" that everything was alright. It's used in private torrent sites, if you upload something whitout it, it will be deleted when someone upload the same cd with log file, that's all the "importance" of log files. In a public site like TPB it is useless.
I've seen many torrents with logs (which means the ripper "knows better") with essential flaws, like mono recordings ripped in stereo (double size).
Public sites are better than private ones, so fuck them and their stupid rules.
I use freerip for CDs (it can rip in mono and you can merge tracks, with cue files if you want to burn cds) and DVDfav for DVDs.

Oh connor, the elists will kill you for saying that. But I agree. I don't see the reason of ripping stuff with EAC at less than 1x speed, otheer than being 10000000% sure you get a good copy. But then a CD would be the wrong place to get a master copy.

I think by default EAC onyl ripps to WAV or MP3, so I believe you would have to download an FLAC plugin or install a FLAC encoder into the system so EAC can use the codec for it

Oh gawd, I'm sooooo upset now. Sad

My CD ROM won't open Sad I think it broke with all the ripping. This is TERRIBLE. It's a brand new (from Aug.) LG unit.

How do I get it to work. I still have tons of CDs to rip.

Can you give me the URL to DL DVDfav (the full version).

Thanks

Someone came over & figured out the CDROM issue. VLC was stopping it from working & opening. Who knew.

I mean... if you're only ripping for a site like the Pirate Bay, then yeah, you're absolutely right.

Exact Audio Copy is much more for quality-control freaks who want to make sure they're getting the absolute best rip of a CD they can get... like me. Big Grin

I trade Led Zeppelin bootlegs, as well as torrent at private trackers like What.CD, so EAC is essential because I don't use MP3 except for personal use.

For bootlegs, uncompressed WAV is wanted, but for internet trading, we use FLAC. Using MP3 will get you a bad reputation with traders, because these are bootlegs, after all, and since many are audience recordings, they are already low quality to begin with. Ripping these to MP3 pretty much guarantees you'll never trade Zeppelin, or Floyd, or Dylan, or most other classic artist bootlegs again, because most people won't trade with you.

For What.CD, they have very high standards of what's expected with an upload, and EAC provides all the needed components and then some, all in one neat little package.

Even where I do use MP3, I still prefer uncompressed or FLAC, and I make my own MP3s from there, using Trader's Little Helper.

It's all about quality. For a site like Pirate Bay, it's obviously quite nice, but not required. But for bootleg trading/torrenting or private trackers like What, it's pretty much required.

So whether or not you use EAC depends entirely on what you're looking to rip and why, as well as how long you're willing to wait and the quality you're looking for in your rip.
