Hollywood is especially eager to cover their backside these days, what with them bleeding money, and if a litigious company with skilled lawyers like Disney think they can even possibly find a way to come after these guys for money, and especially if they WIN, then RiffTrax's blood is in the water and every other studio will too.(May 25, 2024, 17:49 pm)Taddghostal Wrote:(May 25, 2024, 12:05 pm)javelinbunny Wrote:(May 24, 2024, 18:40 pm)ocagwdwv Wrote:Yeah some of the trash films are just trash but they obviously have an audience otherwise there'd be no mst3k, and likely far more profitable as regular content. Ofc I too would prefer a lot more mainstream riffs but it's a business and the trio won't be doing this forever. We should respect that especially as pirates. Besides which a lot of the riffable Hollywood films these days are miniseries that don't get renewed, and afaik they've only riffed single episodes of GoT and Stranger Things because of legal issues.(May 24, 2024, 14:00 pm)NexusWraith Wrote: Filmed on a budget of $300. My 2 cents:
1: No copyright infringement = no case. 2: No money to go after = not worth it.

Edit Reason: Forgot to thank TADD
)
Another Rifftrax that will only be remembered by me for how many times I cringed and moaned, not for the few laughs. I didn't buy this one and will not donate for getting it from here, because, I mean, REALLY?
oh! Forgot to thank you Tadd! Better health is on the way

Having finally finished this ... and politics aside ...
I know women who can do a better Trump impersonation than the one in this film. Also ... PUT SOMETHING ON THE BACK OF YOUR TAROT CARDS YOU LAZY ****S.

It was a decent riff by the crew, I'd call it average for them. I've certainly sat through worse, regardless of what the source material is.

Nowadays it takes a 6 figure Kickstarter stretch goal to force them to riff a Hollywood movie. Isn’t it the… piracy… that stopped them doing modern Hollywood stuff? I agree with you completely. I’d prefer they do movies that are otherwise of quality (in just production, or screenwriting, or both, even). I’d also like for them to “fill in the gaps” of the ones they’ve already done (Ocean’s 11 but not 12 or 13–the latter being the genuinely bad one? Jurassic Park but not II or III–the latter two being the genuinely bad ones? Indiana Jones I and IV but not… etc.). But… don’t they cite piracy as the reason they don’t bother?

I think it's just a business decision based on VOD sales being better performing for them. Even with the app, I think most Rifftrax watchers really want something as simple as hitting play. Also, with the VOD stuff, they can include them in packages to Amazon Prime, Rifftrax Friends, or whatever other streaming service they want to partner with. It's just more flexible for them. Although, yeah, I do agree that getting a Hollywood riff now and then outside the Kickstarters would be nice. Not even necessarily monthly, but even a good one every couple months throughout the year would be nice.

Public domain material like The Mads riffing on would beat even the motion pics. I always listen to classic mst3k while teleworking : - )

For what it's worth, I thought the riffs were hilarious. I prefer the older schlock, for sure, but this was enjoyable.
