Port Forwarding in uTorrent

There is no right or wrong number. Whatever it is now is probably just fine. Just make sure when you are forwarding the port, whatever number is in your client is the one you are forwarding.

How do I find what number is in my client? And what client would that be?

Go to Preferences -> Connection -> and check the Listening Port, you'll have a number there. You can set the number yourself, just make sure it's between 49152 and 65534. Then you have to port forward it on the router.

Use UPNP/NaPNP then forget about it.

What is that and what is the difference?

It's in the settings and it simply manages the forwarding of the port on the operating system and router for you.

Ok, but I'm using a vpn for port forwarding not a router.

Ok, so I set up port forwarding on my vpn and it gave me a specific port.  I used entered this port in uTorrent.  Do i have to enable upnp port mapping and nat-pmp port mapping as well?

Also, in my router settings I set up port forwarding to my computer's ip address because it wouldn't let me set up port forwarding to any other ip address.  I also put entered the port from my vpn into my router settnings to start in the same port and end in the same port.  Is this all correct?

I noticed that when I disconnect and reconnect to the vpn, the port changes.  So I have to change the port in uTorrent and on my router every time I disconnect and reconnect?  Huh

Do I need to set up port forwarding in my router if I already have it set in my VPN application?

If I do need to also set it up on my router and I have more than one device with more than one port for listening, how do I set up forwarding on each port?

Yes. And it has to be both the same port on your VPN and your router.

From your previous post:

...go back to your VPN and forward a second port, then both ports to the relevant devices in your router's port forwarding table.

So if I have three separate ports from my VPN apps on each device then I create a port forward entry in the router using the IP address of the computer and the corresponding port to forward?

Correction: ...it has to be both the same port on your VPN and your router OR, IF YOUR VPN SUPPORTS IT, WHEN YOU FORWARD A PORT NO. ON YOUR VPN YOU CAN MAP IT TO A DIFFERENT PORT NO. ON YOUR DEVICE.

Back up a step.

Why do you have have three separate ports forwarded on each device?

That sounds as if you are running three separate torrent clients on each of two or more devices in your home. That is an extraordinarily (and almost certainly unnecessarily) complex setup.
