Just how good is a VPN at hiding your identity?

There a few things that I want to download that I know will get me in trouble.  I currently use windscribe and I'm wondering if there are other safety precautions that I should be taking?

Firstly what is it that you're going to be downloading exactly?  Is it possible to say or not?

Also what is windscribe?  Whatever that is I've never heard of it.  I know a fair bit about VPNs so maybe I can help you in some way...

Rodney might be a plonker but he has had a few VPNs over the years and knows what to look out for when it comes to the subject...

A.  Mostly software but some of it is Autocad based
B. Columbia pictures purposely seeds its own shows and movies just so they can catch you

Windscribe is a VPN

Edit:

There is one torrent that I really want https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5403804

But I only want the Best Songs album

Yes, that's fine...

I was just hoping you could have told me more about windscribe, I gathered it was a VPN.  Maybe you have a certain opinion on them?

The rule with VPN is as follows:

It is completely dependent on where the company is based.  The HQ, if they are in a certain country then that is where the laws fall.  It's all about laws really, different countries and different laws.  At the end of the day nothing else matters other than law that's how it works..

If the company you are using are based in Canada then it means it falls under Canadian laws, if the company you are using are based in the Pacific Islands then it falls under their laws.  If you file share and do P2P and download anything you want, as long as the country where your VPN is based has no laws regarding sending and receiving files then it means you are okay..

There's nothing they can about it.  If you're not breaking the laws with the VPN you are registered to then it means they can't do anything because the law in the country says you aren't doing anything wrong...

Another good thing about certain VPNs is that they sometimes keep no logs.  Also they have good encryption which is important.  It's always important to get the one that you can afford to get the best service.

There is 3 VPNs that are currently available and they are the best overall.  If you google search the best VPNs in 2022 it's most likely you will find these on review sites.

End to end Encryption, no logs and being registered in a country with no file sharing laws is what you want..

do this and make sure you aren't in a country where laws say it's illegal to download pirated content and then you're fine.  I'm pretty sure that copyright all comes down to a civil claim anyway.  I know they put that it's criminal but I think that's all bullshit it's not really it's a civil matter they just like to try and scare people saying that it's a criminal matter.  I might be wrong about that because law gets complicated but if the company who are running the VPN say there's no laws in their country then the civil claim goes right out of the window there's nothing they can do.

I use windscribe because they give me 10 gigs free each month.   I also use ProtonVPN for a similar reason.

I'm in the United States and I need to download an autocad software package that's selling for 3k.

Everyone that I've talked to has told me that they've had problems for illegally downloading it.  The makers have a zero tolerance policy and sue everyone.

Obviously, I'm not going to take any chances because I need my Internet connection so I can pay my bills.  (I refuse to go back to working at 7-11)

Just thought I would mention that she has a really big fanbase in Russia. There is a lot of fans of hers over there so I heard a while ago.

If you worry, get a VM, put something like ProtonVPN on the host, another unrelated VPN on the guest, then use Tor Browser inside. Might chain more VMs, all above 2 would go software virtualization (slow). Overkill? Maybe. Better safe than sorry.

I understood none of what you wrote.  Can you explain it a little better to me?
And how much is this going to cost me?

Well I download things all the time and I've never got into trouble. Like I said earlier on in this thread, it completely depends on what VPN you have and windscribe I have no idea about anything in regards to them so I guess just find out more like where they are based. You will be as safe as depending on how good your VPN is.

Windscribe is in Canada... Is that good?

If not... Can you recommend another one?
