Also fired in the middle of the night, from a sitting position, after being startled by a thumping at the door just 12 feet ahead of me. One should preferably sleep on a comfy sofa or chair, keep gun in holster, draw while throwing blanket aside with the free arm, then assess situation (scared, in the dark and without proper senses including balance). Aim high to avoid killing children or the neighbor's cat. First round will dim your eyes with a flash and muffle your ears due the room echo.  Then just hope your wife, landlord or boss don't mind the splintered hole(s) in the building.

Haha this reminds me of my ole pal Antonio from Spain. He was a street musician and a heroin addict. Didn't have a lock on the cave where he slept, which was a potential problem as the mountain side was prone to raids by young gypsy ghetto boys with various improvised meelee weapons (crowbars and such). He had tied a huge ass knife to an old broom stick, slept with that and a flashlight. Told me "If someone comes in at night I shine the light in their face and point my knife-on-a-broom-stick at them. That'll keep the fuckers away". He's still alive and kicking (kicked the habit too).

I would let my dogs hurt them very badly before i called police, then after about 5 minutes or so of watching them tear the intruder to sheds I would reluctantly call them off.

If the burglar doesn't have a weapon, it's a little trickier, but 9 times out of 10 even then you will get away with it. And why shouldn't you? Screw that person. They knew the risks.

Oh, I'll just break into this person's house in the middle of the night trying to steal anything I can get my hands on and maybe even rape or kill people in the house, but if I get shot, that's wrong! A travesty of justice. My rights were violated! Pffffttt.

If you do that and are shot, that's your own fault and too bad for you.

It's called the Castle Doctrine here in the states. Basically say a man house or car are considered his domain, If you cross the threshold of a door or window uninvited, you are trespassing and plan to do harm, therefore you can shot them. You are not required to retreat when in your own home. It's different outside your home, you have an obligation to retreat in my state, only shot if you can not safely disengage from the current situation. So to answer your question, what would I do, shot to kill, shot at the center mass. And pray they don't shot back.

It's ironic that this kind of thread would be in a pirate's forum as it indicates that a good majority of this thread's posters are opposed to robbery.

Since most of you guys are pirates, and that is considered stealing, would you appreciate being shot when the content maker finds you that you are copying his works? I wouldn't.

^^ It's only considered stealing by the copyright trolls. The definition of theft is when you dishonestly remove property belonging to another person, with the intention of permanently depriving them of it. Piracy is about sharing copies, so stop speaking the language of Teh Man robertx! Besides, this thread is about what how you would react if an intruder came into your home.

I agree.Robert. Think of it this way: We can't "pirate" what yu don't actively share with us. Plus, Like Spud said before, it's taking a COPY, so the person is not at a loss. HUGE DIFFERENCE

WHat you describe is more like a hacker who steals your bank info to take your money....

I'm not disagreeing that piracy is not theft/intrusion, but I am saying what others may believe, hence the word "considered."

Pertaining to the site's original topic, my position hasn't changed; I still wouldn't "shoot to kill" an intruder unless he is really going to pull out a weapon. See, besides movies and video games, I won't be made to kill. I'll injure him. I'm not sympathising a potential killer or any one who is harmful, and I am not afraid of being charged second degree murder, it's just the principle of the thing. You don't kill as nobody has the right to take lives but God.

As Duke Nukem would say, "let God sort'em out!"

I wouldn't say anything, but my personal friend Smith & Wesson would have a few things to pop off on the person(s).

Apparently I'd shoot them. Since that's what I did.
