Congratulations, if it's in good shape it's a nice toy. Pretty much like my 2012 Samsung with i5-2450 / GT540M. But Alienware is rad cool.
Just we won't run many fancy games on our rigs. I dream of a modern, hacked, beefed up MSI/ROG ultra-slim...

You can get a c64 emulator and play those games... Even some older PS games I think.

The only games I have are Need For Speed Hot Pursuit and DBZ. Got rid of DBZ as it pisses me off and NFS glitches... I do well, it pauses, next thing I know I'm crashing. Oh, I had Oblivion on it too, but I just couldn't get into it.

The only game I play is called Pornhub, but it's hard because the only joystick you can use is too small...

Was looking at craptops the other day. Mine can't close since it's duct-taped together from being dropped and barfed on. It's an HP Beats Audio with 1TB of storage which is more for me since it holds all my movies.

The least expensive one I've seen was (I think) around $500, so it sounds like you scored. Even if you just use it as a web browser...

That's what I do with mine, but don't know if it's Intel's "programmed obsolescence" or Windows' "constant evolution", even simple games are getting too heavy for the dear old work horse, and the fan is struggling. Decent replacement fans/coolers are expensive yet here none was to be found, so I'm stuck with this until it dies. Then I can disassemble it, put on a new desktop cooler and fan, and make my own "notebook" (bin) or briefcase mod.

What games are you planning to run on it?

It I in theory possible but very improbable - I wont start one more discussion on the MXM bus, suffice to say (used) replacement parts may be found but very few notebook series have the same support hardware (motherboard, BIOS, etc) for both entry-level and high-line graphics; even so, the power is quite different and replacing the AC brick won't be enough, the battery and/or voltage regulator would probably blow.

Dunno about him, last games I played on mine were GTA 5, Witcher 3, Tomb Raider.
Also tried those on my latest used rig, desktop i7-2700K/GT560Ti (8/1 GB), excellent for the first, good for the second, passable for the last.
As I see it, one doesn't need to upgrade an old gamer just for processing power, but because new releases (or higher resolutions) demand more video ram. In my case there's only 1GB on the GT560 and no way to add more; so we're tied to buy a whole new graphics adapter after a few years.
