How to burn mkv blu ray movies on a dvd
#1
Hi guys!

I downloaded some mkv blu ray movies from RARBG and I am just wondering how to burn them on a normal dvd disc so that I can play them on a dvd player? Would I need a single or dual layer dvd disc? Thanks!

If DVD the player supports MKVs out of the box, you can just burn them to disc.

If not, you would probably need to encode them before you burn it to disc. One such too that does both in stepwise format is ConvertXtoDVD: https://thepiratebay.org/search/ConvertXtoDVD/0/99/0

Note that any video file, in this case a Blu Ray rip, once extracted from the source file, the association to the source is gone. Of course, it may play for twenty minutes and then mute the audio if infested with the Cinavia protection, but that's another story.

I am confused here.... I downloaded movies from RARBG and from my understand these movies had been ripped from blu ray discs. When I used convertxtodvd to burn the movie, it is telling me that I need a dual layer dvd disc, why can't I use a single layer disc?

Sorry for the confusion. I'll do my best to explain.

Those movies were ripped from Blu-Ray discs. What I was trying to say was that a video file is a video file is a video file, no matter if it is ripped, downloaded from a web source, or just PVRed. It's the same format, albeit a different source.

For the second question, you might need a dual layer disc because the file is probably too much for the software to handle on a single layer disc. The factors may range from video quality to the time (i.e. too long).

You know what? Fuck the Blu-Ray disc source explanation; it's getting in the way of everything that you want to do.

Just know that ConvertXtoDVD or Nero can burn your discs for you. Like I said, if your DVD player supports direct playing of MKV/MP4 discs when a disc full of MKV/MP4 files is inserted into the drive, then try that. If not, then just use ConvertXtoDVD or Nero.

It's up to you to know what your DVD player plays.

Hope this will finally help.

Thanks for the explanation! I got convertxtodvd and dvd flick but would like to know in your opinion, which one produces better quality movies? I tried convertxtodvd to burn a movie and it seems to be working okay but for the same movie, when I am using dvd flick, it is telling me that the size is a bit bigger to fit on a dvd disc and ask me if I still want to go ahead. I clicked yes and I got the following message:

A DVD can only hold about 4.7GB of info give or take. So if the file is larger than that, you can't use a standard DVD. Like other people said, doesn't matter the source. Only the file you have.

Hey, welcome back, joew771.

Personally, I use ConvertXtoDVD; DVD Flick is discontinued and shitty software. Then again, it was free.

The reason I like ConvertXtoDVD is that it's easy and that you can encode and burn a lot of video data to a disc, a data that would normally not fit if you use lesser DVD authoring and burning software.

EDIT: Just pick ConvertXtoDVD and all will be well. You will run into video quality problems, but such is the price of being able to burn all that video to a disc.

i personally use DVDFAB10,
Normal DVD are of 4.7 GB, but if u buy a Dual Late DVD Disc it will be of 9 GB Approx, and also more storage more good quality from MKV to DVD9 as compared to DVD5

Hey guys! I have tried convertxtodvd and it seems to be quicker. Also, it can fit the extra data onto a normal dvd disk. So, I have to decide whether I should compromise video quality by using convertxtodvd or use dvd flick. Does dvd flick have better quality? Also with convertxtodvd, would you select the 16:9 wide screen ratio and if so, once burnt into a dvd format, VLC does not play in a wide format anymore. If I played it with a mkv file, it plays in the wide screen format, can someone please inform me why this is so? thanks!

Well, I tend to think DVD Flick to be a good source if you're just playing around and not do serious work.

Aside from it being free (legally), I find no real use from that program. But a neat feature is that, unlike ConvertXtoDVD, you can make custom menus. Other than that, ConvertXtoDVD replaces DVD Flick.

Sorry, I don't know why VLC doesn't play in a wide format, but I know that it's an "as-is," you can use the software for free, change its behaviour, but if you have problems, you'll have to take it up to the official forum of VLC.
