This is a little weird... I haven't seen a pre-order option for a riff from these guys ever. Wonder what is behind this? You think they are just trying to offer something (anything) this Friday to keep website traffic? I can't imagine this is going to generate any more revenue that not offering a pre-order for a release still 2 weeks out.
Thoughts?

Pre-order for physical media makes sense. Pre-order for a digital release seems weird. A "Coming Soon! On May 28th! We Bring You! GUMBY!!!" e-mail would work out about the same.
I did it anyway.

I mean, they do it with e-book preordering all the time. My wife buys endless book preorders for digital books. Maybe they're trying something new. I mean, there's no downside, really. I'm not sure they need extra promotion time, given that it's their platform and they're not competing for space like you are on the Amazon book marketplace, but maybe this one cost them a bit more than the usual schlock licenses and they're trying to get their money back. Or maybe they need some extra cash right now to help pay for some future licenses.

I think I remember them doing preorders a handful of times before. It could just be marketing, a way to build excitement for things

Or... maybe it's a way to circumvent those vicious pirate forums which post the vod's , for free, within an hour of being put on sale. This way some upfront money is taken in before we (this forum) start stealing the food out of Rifftrax's mouths.

FWIW that seems like a promising idea to maximize purchasing before the piracy strikes. That said I think they serverely overestimate the numbers of us who could afford to buy their products.

Digital video games have been doing pre-orders for years. Surprised this isn't the norm for a lot of digital-download video and audio already.

They’ve definitely done preorders with some of their live shows before. There were links to do so on the goodies pages. I think it’s happened with a few other VOD.
