Gumby-Bakers Tour + Gumby Concerto - Topaz Proteus - 1920x1080p - VBR -x265 (-14LUFS) -Handy..mkv
I had some time to finally sit down and focus on upscaling for MST3K Myself.
i was previously seeing much better results in AVClabs vs Topaz.
unsure if it was the source material (black and white) flying saucer mystery and the models training on black and white film
or the versions being upgraded. Topaz is on v4 now ant my test show over sharpening errors in AVC and perfection in Topaz now in v4.
the screen caps are before and after the original 480p riff and after Topaz @ 1920x1080p. with VBR vs constant bitrate. exported as -x265 in topaz.
the results are GREAT .... -but BIG
Handbreak at my preferred x265 settings wants 3-4 hours just for this short.THAT WILL HAVE TO WAIT.
It was late and I wasn't thinking clearly. Also i get no accurate estimate of time required to upscale in topaz and no final size estimate whatsoever.
In this 1st test i exported in topaz to x265. my test with MST3K-301-Cave Dwellers (Ator) yielded a 12.8 GB export.
This is actually about correct for an x265 encode for an average Uncompressed 1hr 40 min MST (50% file size and KILLER results are what I usually get).
au uncompressed file size for a MST episode should be about 25 GB, I think 12 GB in x265 is about correct
Looking to use handbreak on top of that to get more reasonable file sizes...
handbreak wants 3 ish hours for this gumby short. A full MST episode will likely take 12 hours in x265
Again that will have to wait.
here I show rifftrax gumby @ 480p maxed on a 4k screen vs the topaz @ 1080p.
hella pixelization in the 480p gumby body and notice the improved stove ...
The proper method should be to export topaz to prorez (no compression again, likely 30 GB) then go to handbreak @ x265 at about an RF of 19-22 max at very slow.
I hope that yields @ 4 GB. thats as far as it should go IMHO.
handbreak likely will want 8-12 hours to finally and optimally squeeze it into x265 and likely will require several tests to get the final size to @ 4 gb
Handbreak has no file size estimate, you just have to run multiple tests
These are AWESOME like this, just HUGE
These are the best versions that will likely be seen unless rifftrax does an upscale release or the AI modeling in commercial upscale apps improves.
-14 lufs the audio.
AI Upscaled poster Art included.
