Farewell politux, R.I.P.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of heartbreaking news, but politux died on 8th March, after taking his own life.

From his obituary: "(politux) took his life on March 8, 2019, after struggling with depression since age 18. He underwent medical treatment and therapy throughout the rest of his years, multiple medication regimens, but nothing alleviated his condition for long. He sought emergency intervention in the days preceding his suicide at both Maine Medical Center and Mercy Hospital without success."

His family and close friends held a private service followed by a cremation.

He leaves an online legacy of music, which was his main passion in life. His 2414 torrents will live on forever on TPB, and can be found here:

Another passion of pol's was promoting up and coming bands by sharing live concert recordings on youtube. His chan can be found here:

Politux was a good soul. He had good and bad days like most people, and while he could be quite argumentative with some people, I always found him to be polite, respectful, and genuine with me. TPB, this forum, and our IRC chan won't be the same without him. My heart goes out to his family and close friends who knew him.

R.I.P. politux, I will never forget you.  Heart

I'm very sorry to hear this sad news, and to be honest I'm feeling a little bit shaken by it. Sad

In my limited interactions with him, politux was always polite and helpful, with a healthy sense of humour, and he will be very much missed.  Thank you, Spud17, for letting us know and writing such a kind and generous remembrance.

This is terrible. It's no secret that I had no fondness for politux in the last few years but someone seeking urgent medical care should never be turned away. I don't wish this fate on anyone.

The night is when, the ghosts all come out
Playing with my head, spin it all around
This room is like a prison cell, I'm all by myself
I'm waiting for my friend to come and break me out

You left me today lying on the floor
I wanted you to stay, it seems you wanted it more
This bed is like a prison cell, cause I'm all by myself
Still waiting for my friend to come and break me out

And there's stone cold bars on my door for this stone cold heart

Some people say life is like a ride
Take it day by day, never knowing why
My head is like a prison cell, I'm all by myself
I'm waiting for my friend to come and break me out
Still waiting for my friend to come and break me out

"Tattered Kaddish" (1989), one of my favourite poems by Adrienne Rich, is based on the Jewish prayer traditionally recited in memory of the dead.  The poem asks us to honour the lives of those who have died by suicide with compassion and celebrate the ways they were able to love life, in the moments "when they could".

Tattered Kaddish

Taurean reaper of the wild apple field
messenger from earthmire gleaning
transcripts of fog
in the nineteenth year and the eleventh month
speak your tattered Kaddish for all suicides:

Praise to life though it crumbled in like a tunnel
on ones we knew and loved

Praise to life though its windows blew shut
on the breathing-room of ones we knew and loved

Praise to life though ones we knew and loved
loved it badly, too well, and not enough

Praise to life though it tightened like a knot
on the hearts of ones we thought we knew loved us

Praise to life giving room and reason
to ones we knew and loved who felt unpraisable

Praise to them, how they loved it, when they could.

Christ, I'm sorry.

There was a time that he and I were at odds with each other. I guess I count myself lucky that we made up in the end.

I will miss him, even if he is a little volatile.

However, I know this: there's no greater glory than dying as the person you want to be. I don't know if I'll ever achieve that status.

The Void will be a quiet place with you gone, politux/ashley.

EDIT: And oh, GNU/Linux forever! I know he picks GNU/Linux over Windows any time of the day and is quite vocal about it!
