Difference between HQ RARGB and Grym
#1
Kind of a newbie question here, I see a lot of HD files like the Revernent for example or star wars. RARGB and GRYM both have versions, but the RARGB is like 12-14GBS larger. I want the HQ file possible, when I DL both the video and audio specs look identical? So what gives, why does one save me more space but have the exact same specs seemingly?
Thanks in advance

Video is not too identical, here rarbg have bitrate higher

Because not everyone has high speed internet, as well as large storage media.
So that's why one save your space.

I think, if a video has a high bitrate (above 10000 kbps).
Most of them will look alike.
And also may depend on the way they do encode the video.
Likewise with audio.

Ok, so I Understand what you are saying the rargb file is a lot larger, but when you look a the audio and video bitrates they are the same on the two files? How is that possible? How is the Grym file able to be cut down in size and still keep the same resolution and audio?

the rarbg torrent is a bdremux (untouched video at about 25mbps) the grym torrent is a bdrip (re-encoded video at about 14mbps).

Grym encodes at a lower rate than what I do them at.

I encode higher than both Grym and RARBG but I'm a very underated uploader.

Lots of people download from me but to be honest I stay well away from Grym cause he hard codes all the black bars onto his torrents.  The people who do that believe he does it because it's for burning purposes.  I believe you shouldn't do that though because you're adding extra data size to the torrent where you just end up having to download Black Screen and it's a waste of bandwidth.

Grym downloaders tend to burn his stuff a lot so I understand where as I don't bother I don't burn copies I buy originals instead that's why I share torrents.

Grym as far as I'm aware downloads a lot of other people's full Blu Ray rips and then re encodes using his settings which are lower than me anyway.

I am different I have encoded each Blu Ray that I own the original so there's none of this downloading from other Pirate Sources all mine are the genuine version of the product.

Another matter I see now users uploading 4K video, it's not proper 4K it's doctored there's no way of Ripping a 4K drive yet there's no drives that can read the discs for your PC.  These 4K rips are what I believe to be screen captured and synced versions that people have made themselves obviously wanting to get as many leechers as possible just for the hell of getting leechers.

Grym wasn't necessarily "hardcoding" the black bars. More like he preferred to NOT crop them out, as his philosophy was that when you cropped them out, you're altering the "true" aspect ratio, which is true ever so slightly upon using resizing mod modes, which is necessary when you crop. So, for those who felt as he did, his encodes were aimed at that audience. At least that was my understanding on why he did them that way.
Personally, his encodes were very good. But to me, what small aspect ratio altering that occurs by cropping out black bars, wasn't worth the debate. I'd rather they be cropped out myself.

When I encode a movie I never alter the aspect ratio.  I just encode it as it should be, not altered.  I crop it like you're supposed to do.  This Grym character he has got lots of people thinking by this concept, which to me is a load of tripe.  It isn't necessary to leave all that black space on a movie, just wastes bandwidth while downloading and you end up with something that doesn't fit properly inside a software based video rendering application.  To me, he has done all those hundreds and hundreds of encodes wrong, I did download one once a while ago, to be honest it went straight in my recycle bin.  For me not even worth downloading from any of his so called "Rips", I'd rather stick pins in my eyes instead lol Another stupid matter regarding this uncropped business if you render on a very wide monitor screen that exceeds 16:9 then you end up with this like letterboxed file that looks more like it should have a letter posted through it like what the postman sees rather than actually watch properly   Rolleyes

Wow, what a bunch of crap.

Here's what you do if you want the best quality for the smallest size. It's pretty simple. You download a few copies and see what quality/size you can accept. If size is the most important, then download the smaller size, if quality is important, then download the larger size. Basically dl a few copies and choose the best for you.

I have always wondered this myself. Thanks everyone for the insight and continued work you all do for us. I myself am having a similar dilemma. I have a super fast connection (the highest any consumer can purchase), and don't care about file size as I have a lot of storage. Is there anyone better than RARBG and Grym (with the utmost respect to them), as I am having a tough time finding anything, especially in light of nearly every site now being down, censored, or inaccessible. I want files with no compromises, no compression, no cropping, zooming, etc. I want the bees knees of quality and authenticity. The utmost best. Straight how it's supposed to be seen. However, I won't be burning these, so please none of those torrents that come in the "Video_TS" type folders and whatnot. If anyone has any suggestions it would be really appreciated. And once again, thanks everyone for all the great work you continue to do. We all really appreciate it!
