Democratic House Investigations of Trump Mega Thread
#1
Here we can post developments in the House investigations of Trump's finances, ties to Russia, obstruction of justice, and anything else they are looking at.

Quote:Meeting for the first time this Congress, the Intelligence Committee laid out a five-point investigation of the president’s potential foreign entanglements that was far broader in scope than previously expected.

Democrats said they had reopened the inquiry into Russia’s election interference efforts and possible collusion with the Trump campaign that the Republican majority closed last year. But they will layer on “interconnected lines of inquiry,” including whether Russia or other foreign actors hold financial or other leverage over Mr. Trump and his associates that at any point could have influenced American policy. Democrats also added a broadly construed obstruction of justice component to their work for the first time.

The Judiciary Committee had called a meeting for Thursday to vote on a subpoena to compel testimony from Mr. Whitaker, if needed. Mr. Whitaker, a loyalist of the president’s who is currently overseeing Mr. Mueller’s work, is scheduled to testify voluntarily on Friday, but Democrats have concerns that he might try to back out or dodge questions about the firing of his predecessor, about the president’s attacks on the Justice Department and about other matters related to the Mueller inquiry.

“For the first two years of the Trump administration, Congress allowed government witnesses to dodge uncomfortable questions,” the committee’s chairman, Representative Jerrold Nadler of New York, wrote in a statement. “That era is over.”

Perhaps most personally for the president, a Ways and Means oversight subcommittee will hold its first hearing on Thursday to start building a public rationale to pursue Mr. Trump’s tax returns.  An obscure provision in the federal tax code gives the chairman of the committee unilateral powers to request from the Treasury Department tax information on any filer, including the president.

Democrats view obtaining Mr. Trump’s returns — which he has refused to release, defying modern political norms — as necessary for their broader inquiries into potential conflicts of interest between his role as president and his business operations, as well as accusations of money laundering that may have involved Russian oligarchs or other financial crimes. But the request is fraught with tension, both because of an anticipated legal challenge from the administration and because of pressure from the party’s left flank on leaders who are proceeding slowly to try to build an airtight public relations and legal case first.

Quote:WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Judiciary Committee has approved a tentative subpoena for Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker in an effort to ensure he appears at a hearing Friday and answers questions.

The vote Thursday doesn’t issue a subpoena to Whitaker but allows House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler to do so if Whitaker is uncooperative. Nadler said he hopes not to have to use the subpoena, but “a series of troubling events over the past few months suggest that we should be prepared.”

Nadler said that as late as last week the committee had received reports that some at the department were counseling Whitaker not to appear.

Whitaker is scheduled to testify before the panel on Friday even though his time leading the Justice Department is coming to a close, with the Senate expected this month to confirm President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, William Barr.

Democrats have said they want to talk to Whitaker because he is a close ally of Trump and has criticized special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, which he oversees.

Nadler noted that previous Trump administration officials, including former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, have declined to answer questions about conversations with the White House during testimony, saying that the president might want to claim executive privilege on those conversations in the future. Nadler said that is “ridiculous” and administration officials must provide the committee with answers or a better excuse to withhold them.

Are you really this ignorant or do you like to pretend to be stupid on the internet for your own amusement?

At this point I don't know which would be worse.

Trump is the best President USA have had in history. Note : He did not start a war, unlike nearly every President of USA. He toned down existing war zones in the Globe. He has created more jobs for US Citizens etc. etc. Clintons in fact cannot claim such deeds. The Clintons are rotten & corrupt to the core. The present USA disposition does not like Trump because of his down to earth observations.

He did not start a war - no he's just created absolute chaos in his own country, divisive and nasty
He toned down existing war zones in the Globe - has given Syria to Putin , a quid pro quo for which we don't know yet
He has created more jobs for US Citizens - started by Obama long before 'Individual 1' , Bill created 10 million jobs in his 2 terms
The Clintons  are rotten & corrupt to the core - just like Trump and his own family , Trump's Team, how many are in jail now
Trump's down to earth observations - do me a favour , his 1 brain cell really must get terribly lonely up there

You are totally prejudiced my friend. Take a deep breath & compose yourself. In whose regime is the world more peaceful ? In whose regime has the bodies of US citizens stopped coming home in coffins ? If Russia was to send troops to Mexico for '#@**!@&#" reasons (#@**!@&# = WMD, saving democracy, fighting terrorism - to safeguard the 'way of life'. of Russian citizens) would not USA be hopping mad ? Get real.

Shitbird stooge Whitaker testifies.

He was appointed by President Donald Trump on November 7, 2018, after Jeff Sessions resigned at Trump's request.[1] Whitaker previously served as Chief of Staff to Sessions from September 2017 to November 2018.[2] Trump announced his nomination of William P. Barr for Attorney General on December 7, 2018, leaving Whitaker's future at the Department of Justice in doubt.[3]

Promodsharma is not prejudiced.  He's facing the reality of the Trump family's financial and politically-related crimes, and the ineptitude of your President who ADMITTED on camera to NBC's Lester Holt in May 2017 that he fired James Comey because the former FBI director was starting an investigation of Trump's involvement in the Russian conspiracy to influence the 2016 elections.  That's the entire reason that after nearly 2 years former FBI Director Robert Mueller was hired by Rod Rosenstein as a Special Counsel to investigate these things.  There have been at least 37 indictments ( criminal arrests ) and over 100 criminal charges against former mainly top-ranking Trump campaign officials and cabinet members.  One of them Paul Manafort is doing jail time and Michael Cohen is going to jail.   Others such as Michael Flynn will be sentenced next month.  You choose to ignore the facts!

I'm audio-recording the Whittaker hearing now from You Tube, to put on my iPod for later listening.

Sheila Jackson-Lee is one of the Democratic questioners. That alone will be interesting, because she's tough and no-nonsense.
