Am I seeding my torrent correctly?
#1
I just uploaded my first torrent and it already says it has 4 leechers. Unfortunately, even though everything seems fine in my client (u torrent 2.2.1), TPB listing says 0 seeders. Is this right? Did I do something wrong? Can someone test out my torrent for me?

Yes 0 Seeder because no one hasn't received complete file yet. No worries buddy, Your torrent is fine and downloading normally. (checked status 2 hours ago & new status shall be different) 4 Leechers in swarm & 8 out 2 Connected - 1 Seeder in Swarm + Connected. Means your torrent under seeding and not yet completely downloaded by anyone. after all it's a huge file so it may took time to get done. Keep seeding and keep torrent client running. (I'm also downloading it now and let me seed it after download)

2nd of all, you just posted first torrent at TPB so before you go above i would like to explain you this, Meanings of seeders & leechers.

Seeders: seeders are people who finishes downloading teh file 100% and are sharing it for download.
Leechers: leachers are people who are downloading the file and sharing a small part of it at the same time.

In simply sentence you can say:

Seeders are those who give.
Leechers are those who take.
Until you have a torrent D/L'd to 100% you are a leech ....
Leechers also share back while D/L'ing the torrent or the swarm would die a quick death.

Kindly, keep your torrents running and seed at-least 24 hours and considering huge file size it may took longer, let downloaders complete it & seed your torrent when it's done, I'm sure this anwser might be helpful to you and to other newbies around.
Good luck!  Blush

And the upload/download speed both just died down to 0.0kB/s... Odd.

It's back! It's slow, but it's back.

The Internet in general, and BitTorrent in particular, works on two principles which you should understand to understand what is happening when you want to "upload".

1. Packets. Imagine you handed a DVD to a friend. In that one transaction, the entire movie was transmitted. The internet doesn't work like that. Now imagine cutting the DVD up into approximately 1000 pieces like a jigsaw, putting each piece into a different envelope and posting them to your friend, one envelope at a time. The envelopes would all travel via slightly different routes, in different mail trucks, and some that were posted later would arrive earlier. Your friend would reassemble the jigsaw as the pieces came in.

2. Request and reply. Now extend the analogy and assume you could only send a piece when your friend wrote to you first specifically requesting that piece. And he had to send each request in a separate letter. And he could only have so many requests outstanding at any one time--so he would a have to wait to receive some pieces before requesting any more. And he might request any given piece from someone else instead of from you.

You can only "upload" when there is a second party, somewhere in the world, actively requesting you to do so. And various things can interfere with that process. e.g. maybe they reboot their PC/take their laptop out of wifi signal range while they drive to work/switch their computer off at night/etc. so they suddenly stop requesting pieces for a while. In time they return and the process resumes.

Or maybe they have just given up on the torrent and stopped it and they never return.

Or maybe they start downloading 10 other torrents and suddenly they can no longer accept pieces from your torrent as quickly as they did before.

You will never know--you can never know--why anyone ceases downloading from you or why speeds change.

All you can do is ensure your PC is set up to upload. The fact that you have been uploading proves that you have done that. As long as you don't change anything you have nothing to be concerned about.

I'm sure all your questions has been solved. And i would like to recommend you this guide about utorrent/bittorrent so you may proceed above: https://pirates-forum.org/Thread-Importa...%B5Torrent There are such basic anwsers that may definitely help you. Good luck!

@Sid, Thanks buddy, Excellent guide. Smile

Thanks guys! I got it back up and running for awhile before it conked out again a few minutes ago. It keeps going in between the progress bar being red, but no visible error and the progress bar being the usual blue with an error at the bottom of the client stating something along the lines of "You are receiving no incoming connections. If the icon does not turn green then you may have a problem with your network."

That's because your torrent client cannot tell whether the reason nobody is connected to you is because they cannot connect to you (perhaps you accidentally kicked your router and the cable jiggled loose or something like that) or because they simply don't want to connect to you right now. It's like your friend not phoning you within the next five minutes--it might be that you forget to charge your phone and it has turned off or it might be that your friend is getting some as you read this and wouldn't want to stop to talk to you even if you phoned him.

If they connect to you sometimes that implies that they are able to connect to you and that the disconnections are their choice.
