(This post was last modified: Jun 02, 2024, 21:06 pm by Tellurian. Edited 1 time in total.)
Is there any Pirate Bay torrenting site that won't infect my computer with malware when I access it? Is there any Pirate Bay that's safe to use?
I'm in fascist UK, so The Pirate Bay is blocked here. However, I access it using Tor Browser, and it seems to give me malware. And if I use a mirror site, they also seem to give me malware. I'm talking about the sites themselves, not any dodgy files I download using torrents from them.
Please advise, because life is even shittier without a good torrent site.
P. S. Oh, and if anyone could please recommend a good free anti-virus program for Windows 10, I should be very grateful to you.

Sorry to hear about your problems.
The fact is, if you're looking at pirate sites, you always run a risk of getting viruses and whatnot. You should look for people who are "trusted" or "VIPs;" they are those who have been uploading for some time in the site and are generally trusted or respected within the community. They are marked with either green or violet skulls. You can almost not able to go wrong with them.
That is not to say that the ones without skulls are not to be trusted, but, as I said, those who are reputed are the ones you can be absolutely sure that will not give you a hard time. However, be it trusted or new, you should scan every program you download although videos and audio files don't really carry viruses.
As I understand, the only antivirus you can count on, at least for Windows computers, is the one that comes with Windows, I am referring to Windows Defender. Ever since I used it, it has never failed me. Sometimes it does exaggerate and come up with what they call "false positives." In that case, use your judgement; is the file you're downloading from a reputable source? Did you just get it from some Joe Blow uploader? Ask yourself those questions.
If you do find a suspicious file, do report it to the staff. You can do so here: https://pirates-forum.org/Forum-Report-T...s-Comments. Everyone benefits when each person here does their part.
I wish you all the best in your travels in The Pirate Bay or any other torrent site.
P.S. Also, don't just count on The Pirate Bay for your free stuff; if you can't find what you're looking for, try free and open source alternatives. I'll leave that up to you, but sometimes, I've switched to free alternatives and never came back. Good luck.

The question would be where did all these accounts come from? Was the Piratebay database sold by some disgruntled moderator......unanswered question.

That's an interesting question.
What's your rationale for that question?

First, there's only one The Pirate Bay site and, as you mentioned, many proxy sites. But proxies / clones / fakes aren't official, anyone can make a copy site; some people actually do with ill intent.
If you mean pirate bay (lowercase, as in "haven") sites, there's 1337x and others. Check TorrentFreak for info, they frequently post lists of current popular torrent sites.
Now, it's not impossible to get a bad script or other form of malware from TPB - Site can be hacked, redirected to a fake one, etc. BUT not really probable, more easily your computer was hacked / infected.
One good measure is to use an ad blocker and a script blocker, and a hardened browser if possible. Since you're using Tor, dunno if you can look for safety extensions / plug-ins? Seldon use the original Tor browser myself.
I would run a full scan before anything, maybe with a bootable anti-virus CD. Problem is, how to get one without using your (imo suspect) PC. There're paid products in media form, sometimes in electronics shops but certainly on sites to buy, but for free you have to get another (100% sure safe) PC to download tools, maybe Windows setup files and/or PE image, then record the media to boot, etc.

Malware:
Are your clicking where it says DOWNLOAD ANONYMOUSLY ?
You need to click the green GET THIS TORRENT (magnet link). Or right-click and copy the magnet link.
See
AV:
Windows Defender is good enough as AV.
Use NoScript + UBlock Origins (UBO) or an ad-blocking browser.
Note: Google plans to withdraw support for UBO soon on its Chrome Browser.
Proxies:
Search piratebay proxylist. Use one of the many mirror sites.
Here is one such.

Hate to redirect the conversation, but what's a replacement for Ublock Origin if you're still using Chrome?
My mother uses Chrome and swears by it.

It appears you can use uBO with Chrome for a while (backward compatibility). In time, alternatives should emerge. Ref.
uBOL will probably be an alternative.
