Have been eyeing a vpn service called "Boxpn". They answered some logistical questions on another thread... but can someone give me a review of HOW good the service is? Thanks!

This may be off topic from your specific question, but:

I like Private Internet Access, but I am not saying it is the best available. I paid with a AMEX giftcard and used a disposible email. I tried it for a month first...then went for a year. They have real tech support via chat whom I worked with to turn off logging on PC end, so there is no disk activity when its left idling for days at a time. They recast their OpenVPN code into */tmp to obscure from being hijacked. The free client supports many options which include shuting off traffic from your PC when the VPN goes down. I use this and also the DNS protection. These work by modifying your IP connection options, seting to 0.0.0.0 the Default gateway and DNS server settings. Sometimes when you want to not use the VPN you must modify the Interface back to DHCP these again. Although they claim only one concurrent connection from a single machine may be used per account, I often use more concurrently and have not had any issues...but they are connection to different country's servers. I typically use Switzerland, Netherlands, Bulgaria for Utorrent because they support port forwarding for Utorrent, and also, the laws are better. I also use US servers for various non-bittorrent stuff like what I am doing now.

When choosing a VPN service, always choose wisely. May the force be with you.

Hi hypno-potamous,
i'm new here and new to vpn.  i have been getting more aware of recommendations to use vpn so i am now ready to do that, but i dont know the first thing about how to do it and it seems you even had a bit of trouble and you seem like a pro, so i reckon it might be a bit of a job getting it done well, like your seems to be.  thanks for the hints.  i'll keep them to refer to when i'm up.  i suppose private internat access might be ok to try.  i'll do a bit more researching first and then decide.  i suppose they all vary in their pricing and that would be important to me.
anyway, thanks for your sharing.

i like BTGuard it seldom goes down like other vpns i've used in the past and they keep no records. whatever service you decide, you should also use: VPN Lifeguard. here's their description: To protect yourself when your VPN disconnects. It blocks Internet access and any others specified applications. It prevents unsecured connections after your VPN connection goes down and reload applications when reconnecting the VPN. with BTGuard you can bind you torrent client to stop immediately if the vpn goes down. with VPN Lifeguard you can bind your torrnet client with any vpn service and your browser. download/info link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/vpnlifeguard/
