propbay's tl;dr version (from the split post)
Quote:Might want to try the following IRC channels using software such as Hexchat (freebie):

Network server -> irc.irchighway.net   ->  log onto the #ebooks channel

Network server ->us.undernet.org -> log onto the #bookz channel

Use the following search term in each channel to see what is available:
@search Jules Verne

Go here and download/install Hexchat:

https://hexchat.github.io/

There are FAQ and docs available there too.

Start Hexchat and then click on "Hexchat" drop down menu which is located at the top upper left.

Click on "Network List" and then scroll down and highlight "Irchighway"

Click on "Connect" located at the bottom lower right.

Once it has finished logging onto that server, type the following into the entry bar at located at the bottom of the screen:

/join #ebooks

The "#ebooks" channel should then automatically open and you can then start searching for book titles, authors etc.  To search type the following (as an example) into the same entry bar previously discussed:

@search Jules Verne

After a brief delay, you should see a prompt, similar to the following, that your search has been accepted.

-Search- <<SearchBot>> Your search for "jules verne" has been accepted. Searching...

  If the search is successful, then the channel will offer an achived text file (in zip format) which you can then accept for downloading.  The following format will be displayed:

-Search- <<SearchBot>> Your search for "jules verne" returned 424 matches. Sending results to you as SearchBot_results_for_ jules verne.txt.zip. Search took 0.55 seconds.

*NOTE:  If you don't have a file archiver software installed, then download and install 7zip (freebie) from:  http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Once the download has finished, use the "Open Folder" button on the download screen to open the folder where the zip file was saved.  Double click on the file name and the name of the contents of the archive file will be displayed.  Double click on the contents file name and your text editor should automatically open to display the names of files you have searched for along with the names of the rascals supplying the files.

To download a title, highlight the name of the file provider and the complete file name.  Then right click on the highlighted section and use your copy function to copy it to the clipboard.  For example:

!pizda Jules Verne - From The Earth To The Moon; And, Round The Moon.epub

Paste the copied string back into Hexchat entry bar and then wait until you get a prompt that the file is available for downloading.  Accept the file and save it into a convenient location.

These files are also in archive format, so you will need to again use an un-archiving program (such as 7zip) to unarchive the compressed file.

Once you have unarchived the file(s), you should be able to read them with your ebook software.

The above routines sound a bit on the complicated side of things to start, but once you have work through the routine a few times it really becomes second nature so try not to get discourage if things don't work out immediately.  :-)

it connected to the program and the network list but it says this here:
Connection failed and in red letters it said this: (unable to get local issuer certificate.? (20).
also says this: Not connected. try /sever <host> [<port>]

Now I don't know how to fix this or what the problem is either
