checking requirements, check internet connections and restart installer

When I try to download I get an .exe file saved. When I open it it opens a box and says "checking requirements". After a few seconds another box opens and says "recheck internet connections and restart installer". How can I get the games to download. I have downloaded some games before but this problem seems to have started a few days ago.
