Unless you're using 16mm film, Betamax tape, or some other dead tech, I can't imagine hardware without updates / upgrades.

Of course you may need to purchase new hardware.  But that is not a problem.

So, upgrades are needed, and they are the final solution for piracy: Obsolescence. Piracy is getting old, says MP/RIAA.
