Quote:After years of wrangling, a deal between entertainment industry bodies and UK internet service providers [ISPs] to combat piracy is close.
BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media will send "educational" letters to customers they believe are downloading illegally.
But a document seen by the BBC shows that rights holders are set to make do with considerably weaker measures than originally asked for.
The first letters - known as "alerts" - are expected to be sent out in 2015.

Would a warning letter stop your pirating activities?

Lol, absolutely not. It won't stop me downloading stuff when they send the next 3 alerts/warnings either, and I'd probably look forward to receiving the fourth because then I know they'll stop sending further letters. After the fourth strongly-worded warning, no further action will be taken.
The kinds of people who immediately stop pirating upon receiving a letter, like the guy in the article, are those who are unaware of what's going on, and won't realise there aren't any actual penalties. The more people that become aware of this joke agreement, the better, because then we can all sit back and laugh at the stupidity of the whole scheme, while waiting for the next episode of Hannibal to finish downloading.
perhaps; if it were like the letter l and measured greater than three feet in length and then only if someone attempted to bludgeon me with it. repeatedly. after, i'd continue to procure my shwag with an additional safeguard that would actively prevent or greatly reduce the chances of encountering any more letters while at the same time, ensuring that my personal affairs remain personal.

It might, if the letter was a decision by the Supreme Court ordering me, specifically, to stop pirating or carry out a life sentence. I'd probably still try to pirate in prison, though.

Hell no!! No letter would stop me from downloading and or uploading movies from my home computer or any other place. I would find a way to get around it.

Knowing our government they will change there minds in between now and then, plus we have an election coming up so nothing is set in stone.
I personally wouldn't or won't stop because of a "alert letter" plus I'm sure that the "Pirate's" will help us find a way around.

Sometimes I despair at the lack of intelligence displayed by my fellow pirates.
Yes. I would stop pirating if I received such a letter.
This plan, which has taken years of wrangling, should be implemented as it is.
In the unlikely event that we don't see a decline in piracy over the next few years then the matter can be revisited. But for now, lets go with what we've got, without any punitive measures.

The only letter I've gotten from my ISP asked me to delete a file. They didn't even bother asking for proof that I deleted the file. I also wasn't charged anything for downloading the file.
