What os you use q91??

Ok I have decided to wipe all my pcs and install the an original VL copy of windows 8.1 pro and disable all automatic updates and never update again!

Will this ensure that I will be safe from Microsoft?

Lol jessewest, nothing is "safe" but it all sounds good to me.

You'll be better off without W10 Smile

Yes, I'm even working on a custom build and plan to release it in the next 2 months. You should use Linux also.

Even RobertX uses it (i think), cuz he knows its the shit.

It's not that update that affects privacy it's a whole slew of them: https://www.hackread.com/microsoft-updat...7-8-users/

So I want to avoid all updates whatsoever since you don't really need any updates and windows performs better without any updates.

Joker is right, GNU/Linux it is the shit.

If you're just an average user, get Linux Mint, and get it from here: www.linuxmint.com

I dual boot it with Windows 7 on this computer, because I still need both.

If you want to use GNU/Linux, you'll need to take out Secure Boot.

Don't get Ubuntu though, because, even though it's what most OSs model themselves after, they mine your data and send it to their parent company Canonical, just like Microsoft. They're a shitty product that uses no condoms.

I'll just stick to windows 8.1. I got myself a nice original copy that has no pre installed updates nor do I plan on installing any updates whatsoever so I should be ok

Well, at least that's better than Windows 10   Big Grin

Now, I knew the privacy issue would come sooner or later, or it might have already come.

A decade back, I've heard of something called "Trusted Computing." This "technology" would be built in your system hardware and cannot be disabled. It will render pirated software useless, or does what Windows 10 intends to do in the future: squeal to their company server.

I used to fret and fear back then, but now that I've found GNU/Linux, I don't even feel scathed at the very least.

EDIT: No offence Joker, but Wine doesn't run even most Windows programs; even the developers themselves admit that and would recommend it at last resort. If you're into that kind of thing, use Crossover, a program based on Wine. They're paid-only, but they have better chances of running Windows apps and claim that they sponsor the original Wine developers.
