Windows 10 privacy, markmonitor

does windows 10 really send local disk drive to markmonitor Or one of their servers? I read an article online about this. If I have a VPN this should not be a concern right?

Yes they do. I even posted a thread about it.

I don't know about "private Internet access", but all VPNs have their con, and yours could lead you into a storm that you don't want to be in. Smile

You really should just go Linux or back to Windows Vista/7/8

Here is a exerpt of one article about it

"Windows 10 is facing some fierce resistance from a few of the most dedicated torrenting communities. As TorrentFreak reports, the private torrent tracker iTS has banned its members from using the operating system over what it considers to be "terrible" new anti-privacy policies. These stem largely from a new Microsoft services agreement which covers select Windows 10 apps and services such as Cortana, Skype and Xbox Live: "We may automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices."

Many fear this passage will allow Microsoft to scan and ban Windows 10 users from playing pirated games and, perhaps, using modded controllers. While that hasn't come to fruition just yet, the fear alone seems to have put many piracy enthusiasts on edge. iTS says it's worried Microsoft will now monitor "the contents of your local disks" and share them directly with MarkMonitor, a partnered anti-piracy company. To combat the perceived privacy intrusions, it's decided to ban Windows 10 entirely for now. Furthermore, according to TorrentFreak, fellow torrent trackers BB and FSC are considering the same. It's probably just a case of privacy paranoia -- once the services agreement is explained in greater detail, we suspect these groups will become a little more receptive to the OS."

The thing is, currently they probably don't, but they have the ability to do so, as they have no reason not to monitor everybody to combat piracy in the name of security

I guess Microsoft has actually defeated piracy: just make a more shitty product that sticks wider issues up its stinking ass crack.

Microsoft can't scan your hard drive and send it out without you logging into a Microsoft account.

Plus if it is true and they can do it, what enables them to do it now and not on win xp 7 or 8??? Absolutely nothing! It's the fire or the frying pan! Plus no one can validate that Microsoft is doing this or can even do it... How would they pull it off man?

Microsoft has the capability to do so. Windows 10 is a closed-source OS, leaving only Microsoft to add whatever they want, whenever. What "enables" them to do it now, is the growing piracy movement. Now they have more of enough reasons to spy on what everybody does on the internet.

No one has yet to prove of what Microsoft plans to do for Windows 10. But that doesn't mean you should go on about your business, in a OS that you have no control whatsoever. Microsoft is also known to have collaborated with the U.S Government in the past quite a few times. From handing over email, to letting the NSA listen on international Skype calls.

Just get Linux dude, or get a pineapple and torrent with that.

Lol, don't worry dude. You can run pretty much any .exe with WINE. Its sorta like a emulator, buts its incredibly useful.

I'd suggest deleting W10, wiping the hard drive (and back up important shiz via usb) and starting fresh with Linux as your new OS. You should go ahead and pick which distro you want, preferably a anonymous based one such as Tails or JonDo.

You should also get a new ip, who knows, maybe your already logged by the FBI.

Also, continue to do more research Smile

Yes! All of those applications that you listed, are indeed supported in most (major) Linux distros. You'll have to download the right files and libraries, but in the end it'll be worth it.

EDIT: And use WINE.

You can also use a vm for offline work, that's what I do.

God... This happens every time Microsoft gives out a new Windows version (paranoid people have done it atleast since Windows XP). Now that Microsoft has specified that they do it, they freak out even more Tongue
