Win/client crash - Lost all data in torrents
#1
Well this was a torrential disaster - Everything in my torrent folder, by my 4TB external drive, is imaginaryware now.

I suspect Tixati (2.56) is to blame, since it froze when it should be moving a completed torrent from temp drive to data drive. Or Windows 7. Probably both.
Everything vanished, leaving me only the documents folder, luckly. But chkdsk saved only the empty category folders and a bunch of files with meaningless names.

For the ones who hate me, or love to troll me, I'm screwed. Royally. Formatted data drive and reinstalled system on boot drive.
Can re-download most of the material, but a few old unpopular pieces... Sad

Yeah you are screwed. And to try to blame it on some torrent is sort of lame.

I suspect that you have terrible security on your computer. And you had this problem for longer than you realized.

From now on take better care of your computer.

I like to give you a hard time, but that sucks to hear... I've went through that a while back too. I now have a detachable 1TB HD as a backup... The only other 2 cents comment I can make is I had issues with WIN7 as well.. 8.1 has worked well for the most part, but there always seemed to be something wrong with 7.

They say for windows anyway, a fresh reeboot once in a great while is good for the system... and don't worry, it won't take that long to redownload your gay tranny porn vids then you'll be back in business.

Joe's right though. treat your computer like your wife, not your 2 dollar crack whore. happy wife=happy life and she'll take care of you if you take care of her... If you mistreat and not pay the whore, you'll see that she'll give you aidz, or at least steal your wallet...

Is this that new 4tb HDD you just got? Windows Explorer will freeze/crash if it has a problem with the HDD. See if you can recover first with TestDisk, and then do some diagnostics on the HDD.

You goofed when you reformatted the drive. There are lots of effective data recovery programs around. And if you had the sense to install any linux distro they are all free. Just stay away from windows and other closed source crap man

Next time, if your hard drive is full every now and then, try to free some space by means of putting some of that data onto another external hard drive.

I did it just a few days ago, and now, I have recovered half the space on my prime hard drive to get other stuff, while the precious data that I downloaded sits in a shelf somewhere safe and sound until I need it again.

Sorry to hear about the loss. Don't worry about some of the comments that were made here, people make mistakes, some bad, some not-too-bad. Just remember where you screwed up and don't do it again.

EDIT: And oh, I you have an apparatus that uses compact discs, DVD discs, or anything that features external storage, like the advice I gave you, don't be afraid to use them. Data redundancy is king and will reward you. I put my favourite applications, games, music, and videos onto discs so I use them there, independent of all computer usage after burning.

You should do that too. Maxmimise on DVD usage and buy more. Believe me, it will pay you off big time.

Thanks all for the support. I well know it was a predictable and deserved slap...
I don't do back-up (can't afford redundancy) and the data recovery I tried was chkdsk, but others would probably fall on the same problem: Creating thousands of folders and files with useless names, like RECO0001.FIL; I rather restart from scratch than trying to figure out.

I suspect you (again/still) has something to do with it. Will ask Eagle to send his thugs on you!
And not blaming the torrent, but the client and the operating system.

First, I just installed again a fresh Windows 10 and disabled the obvious privacy issues (microfone, usage reports, etc). Also formatted the data drive for NTFS. Should be enough.
Second, if I was to buy a wife, would pick a whory waitress not like Wendy Williams, but Stephanie Fondue!

Just my new Seagate 40100-something series. But the drive seems ok, looks like it was a software freeze. After power-off/restart, it was running perfect but data folder was full of empty subfolders (movies, games, music, etc). Chkdsk just finished the mess.

You are right, but the only recovery tools I know of do a lousy job. And no way I'll run anything but Windows, I need games!
Will buy me a small Ux box just for torrenting / media serving, when possible. For now, I'm asking .50c whores to give me on credit.
Can you sponsor my claims, vouch for me?

PS: Somehow Win 10 US-EN spell Checker has some weird ideas when in multi-language mode. I didn't ask for it, but installing a LatAm keyboard layout automatically sets Spanish/Portugese modules and still don't know how to kill those.

You can play both morrowind, baldurs gate and red alert on linux. Dosbox for older games (they are better), and C64 emulator for ultimate awesomeness. What else do you need? If need be you can dual boot. Use the windick for virus and aidz with internet off. Then linux for serious stuff like posting in the void.

About the goon squad and fundraising, lets talk about that elsewhere...

1TB hard drives are not that expensive here in Canada, and considering that the rest of the world are more superior in piracy and technology, I would say that you can get it easier than I did. Mines was $70 approximately in Canadian.

Well, at least just burn your movies/tv shows to a DVD via ConvertXtoDVD, burn all  your Games/OS images to DVD using Imgburn, burn your music... we can go all night, but my point is, if  you can't get the best of the best, you should at least invest in an 8GB USB stick; heard those are cheap.

It's not hard.

Most games are for Windoze, sorry. I'm a download junkie, and doubt GTA VI (when available) will be for Linux.
Steam is growing, it's a longshot but maybe in the next two years we see more studios developing for their OS. Won't hold my breath, though.

You can reach me on that silly viking face on suckerberg fake boot you don't use, if need be.
Just wait long for a reply, as I too seldom log into that.

We talked about that on other thread(s), here the Dollar is 4x1 and I don't count on social services.
Easier to trade my phone for a gun and the mask I can make out of some flour sack. That would be real "piracy", just not at the seas.
