Can someone please explain to me that file size?
I've seen a hell of a lot of releases that weigh in at 6.55GB, yet that exact size does not align neatly with any storage media I am aware of.
There has to be a reason though, it can't all be just a coincidence.

I don't understand what you're asking.
Are you talking about DVD-Rips? Blu-Ray rips? First of all, the better the picture, the bigger the size.
And what about the storage media that "you're aware of?"
I don't want to sound like an asshole, but I'm rather slow on understanding some questions.

You must have noticed there are certain standard sizes in which files come in. There is a reason for that.
One that has nothing to do with either content or uploader. But rather with being able to utilize the entirety of all available space on non-rewritable storage media. I'm sure you can see the benefit of that.
Here's an example for you: Optical media. Disks.
DVD - 4.37 GB
Double layer DVD - 7.95 GB
CD - 700 MB
A lot of releases are either of that size or a proper fraction of it - like half a DVD, a third, etc.
I hope that brings the point across. Otherwise I'll have to bust out the charts.
